2: bands that start should acctually do that, that way they have better chance of breaking true. Or do you walk into a music store with thousands of albums and listen to the ones you've never heard of?

3: lets say you get a album and it gets into the shops. how will ppl know if you are any good?... so you send your album to some critics that might listen to your stuff.. and find it totally shite... thats one mans(or maybe 2 3) opinion. By acctually let ppl downloading and watch how they criticize it, its a lot better IMHO

4: if you finally break trough you will get alot more money from gigs/concerts/festivals and merchandise and stuff like that, then acctually selling your album

one or two songs is completely different than a whole album.
no, band's shouldn't just give away their CD's to start with, or they'll run out of money and not be able to afford to live.

Selling CD's after hearing a couple of the tracks is perfectly legit, and friends don't mind supporting anyway for the most part. Sending demo's to RECORD LABELS has an effect, but sending them to random people will end up with wasted money and no progress whatsoever. I've been in this for a long time now, and I know how things work.

Modern Rock... Um, either "Velvet Revolver", or "A Perfect Circle" More or less dark/hard rock, but still should be considered rock.

There's not really a way to know that... Genres have never been set in stone, and their definitions certainly have not.

It's usually decided by popular opinion... in which case, you're outnumbered.
But generally.. why continue the bickering? You both have different opinions, just leave them be.

But for the record: a genre can have subgenres, and so on. Metal having its own categories does nothing to prove that it's not a form of Rock. Because historically, it -evolved- from Rock, therefore by popular opinion it's a kind of Rock. It doesn't matter if you agree or not (like I said, genres aren't set in stone, so I won't claim that either of us are right), my point is just to show you the popular reasoning, such as -Zr-'s.



This is why I try to avoid labelling genres... you just get a big, confused mess :P
