So I'm flipping through a magazine and i saw an advertise ment for Botox and then I got to thinking (caz i am at work with nothing better to do) why is aging so bad? Why do ppl fear looking older? On the other hand why is wanting to look young forever so bad? why shouldnt i be 87 and look like 35? I began to think about it even more after more cousin generously pointed out that i have bags under my eyes and I began to think maybe i should get plastic surgery would that really be so bad? In a world where the fountain of youth is within our reach are is it really shallow to want to take advantage of that? Would we not be cheating ourselves if we let that technology go to waste? At the same time I look at Joan Rivers and Cher and they look like plastic dolls but i wonder is "growing old gracefully" completely obselete?

I've got no problem with people trying to look good (my mom's own's a beauty parlour).
Vanity means more money to around ^^ Its a sign of a prosperous society that wants to improve quality of life. Same goes with boob jobs, nose jobs etc, etc. Is it disgusting? yes.
Necessary? Yes.
Everybody has something they feel insecure about, their personality, their voice, their physical shortcomings, and when opportunity presents itself for people to better themselves, I don't see any reasons why not when it can boost confidence.

imagine a world where evryone was perfect... i think it would be awfull. There are beautiful people because there are ugly people. Humans live by relativity, if everyone was perfect, noone would look amusing, bacause you're used to it. So, splashing money to make yourself look young is not worth it IMO, but, theres nothing wrong with looking after yourself and staying fit
That's an interesting observation, but I'm not sure if it really would work that way. I think that people would still be beautiful in our eyes if there weren't ugly people. It just wouldn't be such a rarity :P lol
I think if you just keep yourself in shape, clean, and healthy, you wouldn't really need plastic surgery. The problem is that people are too goddamn lazy and don't keep themselves all that healthy. They want to look great, but aren't willing to work for it, but they are willing to pay for it.
like all poeple say....except paris hilton , its not what matters in the outside , its the inside that counts

I think both the outside and the inside are equally important. I am one being; no part of me is any less vital to my lifestyle than another.
People decide what is an ideal appearance. People decide; you can decide. To alter your body to meet what others have decided is 'beautiful' is ridiculous and I have absolutely no respect for it.
What I find beautiful is nature. When I see these foolish people further trying to defy nature, they become the most hideous creatures I could ever imagine.
What do you even end up having to pass on to your children when your appearance and personality is synthetic? What purpose could you have left in your life?
Vanity is spiritual demise.

too tired to read everything but i've gotta say this:
i do so very much detest old women, no doubt about it. and i aint gonna lie either. but i have noticed that some men, imo, still seem attractive, though they may have silver hair, and dentures, they still look good. im talking about the well built ones of course, who can still walk on their own.
oh and celeberties dont count, they dont age. >.>
you know why they dont age?? cuz they got fake body parts , I mean like nose lift , face lift , ------ enlargements and more
There are the outside looks and the inside looks (that some hide)
I don't know why,but people think of others,as the thing they are on the
outside... And thats TERRIBLE! But... To please some one,or in most
cases, your self, that means it's not bad to do a little makeover!
It's good to like your self,in and out,so I say, that makeovers are not such a
bad thing =) I'm still a bit young to think of makeovers and stuff, but I hAve
got an opinion =)
But if people were perfect,as Azure Wrath said,it would be no fun :) But never the les...
Give a man a mask and he'll tell you his inner most truths =]

i hated wen people say its doesnt matter, only the inside counts, w.o ugly people there wudnt be beatifull?
why dont u b the ugly one so people can see others are beautiful?
and if u pick a bf or gf u wudnt look at thier face first? thats bull
and its life, i agree w the first guy its not bad if people change ther apperance to boost confident
and people who afraid of aging is just hiding from life.

first off: yea the inside counts but then again you can't see it so try your best to appease others eyes
second off: What I find the main reason for the fear of aging is that, people are afraid of dying because with age comes handicaps, senor citizinship, discounts, and deaths. And once your old you can't do as much and people hate that, so as long as they believe their young and no one mentions how old they are then they'll be fine

nope. theres our point of view on what beautiful and ugly is. there is no beautiful or ugly in reality. its just the way our scociety sees it, and it can easily change.
hell, theres a place called fiji(i think), and it used to be that being fat was the way to go. (then they got american television, mucho starving oneself. not kidding)

but would anybody be 'striking' if EVERYONE was picture perfect. Would you drool over the covermodel of some magazine, if you could just walk outside and see 20 equally beautifull people. You'd be attracted to all of them at first, eventually, i'm sure you'd get bored, because its what you grow used to.
IF everyone WAS beautiful, eventually society would start to grade one's beauty, to add even more levels to beauty, resulting in the 'not as beautiful' to become 'ugly' and the 'oh my god, i just came in my pants-beautiful' would be classified as 'still pretty'
I think it's human nature to always compare ourselves. That's something that most people (unfortunanlty) do. You compete at school in sports and academics, to beat the person next to you, so that when you (constantly, subconciously) compare yourself to him, you can see yourself as 'better'.
Example:
60 kids in a class write maths test. 20 of them get 35%. 10 of them get 50% 25 got 80%. 5 got 100%
If you are on of the few that got 35%, then you will say you did crap. If you were one of the 5 that got 100%, then you will say you owned.
Now, what if everyone got 80%. Did you do good? did you do crap? The smartest guy in the class got 80% and you got just as much as him. But you also got as much as the dumbest person in the class. Are you good or are you crap. Unless you rank yourself on your own, uninfluenced standards (which is what i think you should do), then you can't rank yourself at all.
same counts for looks
My opinion, if you don't agree... 'not the face, not the face!!'

Yes, you would. The attraction we feel towards others is not the same appreciation as that of a particular colour you favour or the admiration of a piece of art. There are pyschological triggers which identify certain features as being attractive and others as not. It's been found that simple faces trigger very positive activity in the brain, because the information is easier for the mind to process and therefore pleases it.
So yes, if everyone was perfect, everyone would still be considered attractive.
nope. theres our point of view on what beautiful and ugly is. there is no beautiful or ugly in reality. its just the way our scociety sees it, and it can easily change.
What society percieves is a part of reality, therefore 'beautiful' and 'ugly' most certainly do exist within that reality.

i kinda disagree, but i have no further hard facts to debate further, only a gut feeling that makes me belive my view.
I'm not saying everybody would be dull, i just think people won't appreciate a beautiful person AS MUCH if everyone else is beautiful too

If you have no fact supporting your belief I suggest you find some or discard it :P I'm presenting reproducibly true facts observed through psychology; not my opinion.
Psychologically, 'gut feelings' are products of misconceptions. Think with your logic, not your feelings =D
Anyway, if we were to spread out the various 'beauties', or each and every conception of 'perfect beauty', we will in all likelihood be examining a widely diverse spectrum of people. Not everyone's view of beauty is the same. There would still be comparisons and there would still be a freedom of choice as to which of the 'perfect beauties' you consider the most beautiful.
It becomes a different argument altogether to propose that each and every person looks exactly the same. Moreover this introduces the challenge of conforming everyone to agree that this one appearance is wholly attractive.

OMG i cant believe it! I agree....... i'm disappointed.
To me, all these superficial things just take away from our culture. I dont think i want my grandmother to be looking like 35 when she tells me stories of her life back in 1930 or something. I want old ppl to look old that way i can really appreciate them and what the have to offer

Haha, that is a good point. We characterise wisdom as an image only the elderly have. There is something graceful about that.
It would certainly degrade this virtue to be hearing life lessons from someone with a face looking younger than yours.
