first things first. This is NOT a thread where you discuss your freaky fetishes or last night's one naight stand. This thread is NOT for any graphic explinations of the act of sex.
Rather, this is to talk about sex, whether it is right to wait untill you meet the right one, should you wait untill marraige, etc...
Ok, i'll start the discussion:
Firstly, i am not a virgin. I don't think that i can say that with pride, because the day i lost mine, was really crap. Yes, it was actually awfull. (i'm not gonna go into detail). Sex for me only became good after about the third time.
Now, i believe that sex is HIGHLY over-rated due to the over-exposure from the media. From movies and songs and basically everything on TV, we get the impression that sex is the greatest thing on earth. I do not believe that. Yes, it is good, it can be great, and every now and again, it is fantastic, but sex is not the only thing in this world.
I have actually come to the conclusion, that sex is really not a big deal with me. Currently, i have not done the dirty deed for about... 8 months (broke up with gf), and, yes, i miss it, but i have realised that it is not such an "oh wow, its sex, let's worship it" kinda thing. Which is why i have lsot my virginity before marraige. I respect people who choose to keep their virginity untill marraige, however, i do not practise this.
That's a part of my rant
PS, please respect other people's opinions, if you flame other people and tell them they're stupid, then it only proves your immaturity.
PSS, if you mods think this is innapropriate, then i'm sorry, just thought it would be fun to have a MATURE discussion about this.

Yep, me too.
It's true that it's not something one should worship but I believe that the act of having sex is like giving ourselves to that person. I do not hold this belief strongly though and am very open-minded to others ideas on the matter. Simply speaking, I'd rather not go into a debate with someone.
The irony is that the media emphasizes the wonder of sex yet society still considers it taboo. Resulting in "worshipping" it like you say, and the practice of waiting until after marriage to lose your virginity.

Like the OP, I'm not a virgin, and my first time was also pretty ridiculous. I wasn't able to really enjoy it until I got in to a decent relationship with someone and we learned how to pleasure one anothers' bodies over time. Having my first time when I was so drunk that I could barely feel anything wasn't exactly magical.
I don't consider it that big of a deal, but I won't lie, I do go out pretty often with the sole purpose of getting laid. I just have a very high sex drive and masturbating just doesn't do it for me as much as it did when I was 14. However, when I'm in a relationship, while sex certainly does matter, it's secondary to how well I get along with the woman I'm with, and I'd rather have a vanilla sex life with someone I actually enjoy being around for other things than to have an incredible and adventurous sex life with someone who annoys the shit out of me otherwise.
That said, I'm not looking for a relationship right now and I'd rather just have some fun while I'm still in my early twenties. Sex is easy to get, but finding a great relationship is not, and I don't want to waste my youth searching for someone to settle down with. That can wait.

It seems right now that most of the people that arent are coming from the same page... first time = drunk mistake.
But in a sense, im happy that it was a meaningless first time. To me, sex can be treated in one of two ways: it can be something that just feels good, and then its over. Game. OR it can be something that enhances a connection you have with someone important to you.
In my mind, everyone should have a general grasp over both types of sex, because if you are looking for something else you can get hurt/dissapointed. Im talking more about females in this regard, you always hear the shitty "lost my virginity to a guy that said he loved me but was asshole" stories.
In my longer relationships, sex has been a statement of our feelings towards each other.
In my nonrelationships, sex has been something to do thatll help me sleep better.

First time was when i was 17 on the beach in the middle of February, which in Scotland I can tell you is very cold.
It was very clumsey, quite uncomfortable at times and quite brief. But I loved it and have done ever since. (Now 21)
Sex should be something to enjoy, either with a girl/boy friend or with some one you just meet.
Also when in a relationship it is a very good way to settle arguements. :D

Sex in itself is not meaningless, but if you read the sentence preceeding it, I state that is made to be meaningless by the way people practice it. It can even be a spiritual experience between the right people. When it is treated like an accomplishment it is stripped of this potentiality.

well I'm 19, not a virgin, and I'm not ashamed. My fisrt time was with my now ex gf who I dated for 4 years. it was about 7 months after we hooked up I was 17 I think, my mind isn't exactly one for time sometimes, but I do have to say it was one of the most amaizing things ever. Girls for your knowledge a guys first time will almost always be quick so be patient and don't freak out on him if it is.

First of all I'm a virgin, I'm 14 years old. There's been many chances to get laid but it just didn't feel right since I wanted to wait for someone I really love. My story is a lot like DBZWarrior6582´s, but without sex. I think that those 10-14 year olds who have their first time on a party while being drunk are just fools, since I live in Sweden first sexual act is when they're about 10-14 years old (NO I AIN'T FROM SWEDEN I JUST LIVE HERE, PRETTY UNINTERESTING BUT I JUST WANNA MAKE THAT THING CLEAR, I JUST LIVE HERE). First time you have sex, make it emotional, what I mean is that you should have it with someone you love, your girlfriend/boyfriend. After that I feel that it's okay to get pleasure without being in a relationship. I don't mean cheating on your girlfriend/boyfriend, if you're not together anymore you can do what I said.
That's my opinion on sex, hate it or love it, it'll still be mine opinion.

No...its not only for physical pleasure, even not more something to brag about. But it's not a shameful nor immoral act to shoulder either, as love making on my part was made out of pure emotion and trust. First tryout was a complete fumble, as nervousness weighted us down heavily.
No real opinion on whether it should be done before or after marriage, but definately you should wait out until you're of legal age.
I can tell you its exciting and physically pleasurable, however its not a priority in my relationship now.

hmm I've always heard the definition of Virginity as being "you're genitals have touched other genitals" merely because that's all that's required for an STI to pass. It would seem odd than for gay people to get an STI yet still be considered "virgins" if we go by your definition.

1.) It's not my definition, it's the English definition. Words are not literally determined by opinion, they have definitive meanings according to a language. When words are used outside of this literal meaning, it's called a colloquialism.
2.) In the latter half of my post I did actually elucidate that the colloquial adaption of the word Virgin shifted when Sex became more than the strict act of reproduction. Hence I said the allowance is made for sexual intercourse between man -> man and woman -> woman to be considered 'worthy' of 'virginity loss'.
3.) Since when was sex in any way defined by whether or not diseases can be transmitted? That's a possible consequence of sex, not the defining quality of it.
You can in fact contract a condition/disease of the category "Sexually Transmitted Diseases" through other means. It's not my opinion that these, too, should be considered acts of sex.
Men of Medicine didn't sit around a table pondering, "What should we call this thing which can cause the spreading of sexually transmitted diseases?"
"How about... Sex?"
"Brilliant!"
It's much easier to regard any genital contact as sex in refering to diseases transmited by such a contact, opposed to having to say, "That thing you can get if your genitals touch another's, whether or not it's actually sex"

I just fucking finished saying that the definition of virgin changed with the definition of sex, which is, in fact, the act of reproduction. Two men or two women cannot -reproduce-. Whether it be a petty reason or not, for the sake of equal rights and to not discriminate terms of romantic engagement between two people, the word was colloquially adapted to a society embracing homosexuality within it.
You want to know another thing that has changed, which no one seems to be aware of?
Men cannot, by the word's literal and original meaning, be virgins. The term was for an 'unspoiled female'.
Again, another thing which was altered by current views of society, for equality.

Another thought. Why is sex considerd 'bad' by the media, why is there an age restriciton on it? i think if all ages were allowed to see porn, the youth wouldn't be so fascinated about it, which may lead to less teens experimanting with sex...
Personally I think that it's good that there's a restriction for it, it makes the younger ones (13 and down) think about other things than sex, a major part already things of sex but still respect the "law". About porn being restricted is also good, for the uninformed ones that is, if you think of porn each time you think of sex it's bad. Porn gives a bad view on what sex is.

To each his own. As far as sex is concerned everyone should do what they want (using protection ofcourse). Personally, I think everyone that wants a better view of the whole "sex, the media, and our children" need to take a look at other countries. For instance, England. There, prostitution is legal, porn can be shown on regular
TV, and guess what? No one really cares. We, as humans are sexual beings. Some, more than others, but if you look at the definitions of life, part of which is the ability to reproduce, then part of life itself is SEX.
The problem with it is, somewhere along the way, someone got some signals crossed and came up with the opinion that sex should ONLY be used for the purpose of procreation. Personally, I come from a religion which endorses sex, to it's fullest. It is something special, in that it can be a night of simple pleasure between two people, or the sharing of one's soul and body with a loving partner. The decision is up to the individual, and either way you go, you're right. Because life is something different to each of us anyway.

I disagree with the media censoring sex also, but I really don't think showing porn on prime time would make a huge difference. However, people would probably be more open about sex if the media treated it like other normal activites.
I don't think the amount of sex people have in general would change though, because it's one our most primitive instincts. I first had sex with a girl when I was 15 and drunk off my ass with a random girl that I had a hardon for. Pretty simple situation there. Shame I didn't last very long; a true minute man performance. I'm sure she was VERY impressed!

I agree with you, I've only had sex with one girl for most of my life. Now I'm alone T_T. I think it's more significant when it's a long lasting relationship. One year alone >.> Anyway, I'm not saying people need to be together for like months either, just be in a commited relationship at least.
I think if people think it's the right time, then they can do it, it has nothing to do with marriage, but casual sex is irresponsible.

awe, sorry to hear that Kayzyn. Unfortunately, it seems the number of girls that have gone through that is increasing, and most people don't consider it a "big deal" kinda thing because it's "just sex". But it's not just the sex, it's the physical and mental torment it puts a person through, it's the fact that a girl's first time will always be a reminder of a horrible (worse than Azure's) experience. It's a gruesome, twisted mockery of "sex". It really pisses me off how people write such a horrible experience off as a girl overreacting, and the legal system has an even MORE rediculous outlook.
As much as I would hate to think of it this way, technically a person is no longer a virgin after that (well, assuming that it was penal penetration and not an object, though that would also depend on your definition of sex). Though I would still consider myself one if that'd been my first too. I don't count any of the guys that raped me when someone asks "how many", and I certainly wouldn't count them if they were my first. Because counting them, I'd think, would be acknowledging them too much, and bringing up bad memories, and almost writing it off the way everyone else does, as a consentual thing that wasn't a big deal.
But while I'm on the topic, I'm obviously not a virgin anymore. I lost mine when I was 17, to a guy that constantly rediculed me and made me feel like crap. I was wanting to hold off for love but I was a pushover and the kind of person I hate back then >.<. I wasn't ready for sex then, it was way too soon. I haven't had sex now for... wow nine months. I don't take any interest in it now, I could go another 2 or 5 years probably. I would have to find a guy that I truly deeply love and trust especially, trust is the key word and very hard to gain, in order for that to happen. Or a girl even. I guess I should also say that I am bi and I have been with one girl, best sexual experience of any of them, lmao... I'm 20 now, will turn 21 in November.
I have a lot of respect for anyone who waits for the right person. In my group of friends, I was the only virgin for 2 or 3 years (sad, they all lost theirs at 14-15. Ugh). Yet they always used to say that they "worried about me losing mine" because I was such a pervert or something. I dunno. Lol.
