Must have been around 6 years ago, i would have been about 16 years old

Think it was B&H Gold

Smoke Drum rolling tobacco or Marlboro's if i'm going out

Drum is around £2.40 for a 12.5g bag and marlboro's are £2.80 for 10, £5.20 for 20

I enjoy smoking no plans to quit yet, but will in the future if i ever have kids

I started at 13 (my dark ages). Then my mom caught me and I quit. Then at 17my bf started smoking because one of my bi friends hit on him and he got disturbed by it. I didn't want him to feel left out so I started agan >_>.

My first cigarette was Benson & Hedges 100's menthol. Now its Capri Blues.

It ranges from $2.00-$3.80 here.

Nothing much. Just people have messed up views about it. Let me get this point across, unless one is a chain-smoker, one does NOT have smoke breathe or smell like smoke.
Its called hygiene.

Im not a chain-smoker but I do smoke and I have people who tell me I smell good all the time so get facts straight before assuming.

When did you start: I was 12 and in 6th grade.

What was your first cigarette: Marlboro Red. Yuck.

What do you smoke now: Camel Lights because I'm cheap, and they're also smooth.

How much are packs where you live: I only buy cartons, and at the local 7-11 they're around $32 a carton.(10 packs) I haven't bought a single pack in a while, but they were around $3.50 last time I checked.

What you think of yourself as a smoker: I'd like to quit sometime, but I actually like the act of smoking and cigs go so well with other drugs. I shouldn't have posted here. Time for a cigarette.

ScareCrow

Yeah, cigs aren't much of a strain on my wallet.

Do you actually enjoy smoking cigarettes, or do you just do so now because you're addicted to them? Personally I enjoy the minute long calm a smoke brings and like I said earlier a cigarette is fantastic with other drugs. They're completely irresistible when I'm drinking.

ScareCrow
09-30-2006, 02:22 AM
I enjoy the taste and feeling I get when I smoke it. It calms my nerves and helps me relax. I think i'm just a bit addicted to them...but idk if i could quit like right away if i wanted to.

Yuber
09-30-2006, 02:30 AM
Yeah, I can definitely feel you on that last point. I was able to kick a moderate opiate habit, but nicotine is just harder to quit for me. My smoking is also really routine throughout the days, so that doesn't help either.

The smoke in the morning, before bed, and after every meal I have are the hardest to stop. I still enjoy them though, as bad as I know they are for me.

Masah

Yes they do ^_^ I can identify smokers out of a crowd, whether or not they're burning down packs a day or just singles.
Hate to break it to you, but to those who don't smoke and are willfully unfamiliar with the smell, y'all most certainly do smell unnatural. =D

The only messed up view of smoking i've experienced is the social endorsement of it.
I'd be inclined to suggest this thread have a warning on it. I do not like the smoking of cigarettes being discussed positively around influential youngsters.

Named
10-07-2006, 02:16 PM
I have a genuine question. How expensive would a pack have to be for you to stop buying them?

Since it is a given smokers do not care for their health, this question also proposes exactly how much your health is financially worth to you. The point where concern for money exceeds concern for safety.

Really think about it, what would be your price?

NMK
10-09-2006, 07:45 AM
Damn you Named, you always come up with these kinds of stuff.

Let's put it this way, alcohol damages your health too, have you never drinken alcohol?

Named
10-09-2006, 11:13 AM
I drink 300mls or so of Sake when I go out to dinner maybe every month. Are you implying that 300mls of Sake, 12 times a year, in any way damages ones health? Clinically speaking, I would say absolutely not. Compared with the inhaling of toxic smoke several times a day, I wouldn't even go there. :)

This is not the Alcohol thread, there is a separate discussion for that. Who I am or what I do is also irrelevant to the question I asked. Please do kindly answer it.

If you are happy with what you are doing and have made peace with it, you would not fall back to a defensive stance and return a criticism or judgement with another criticism or judgement. Who cares, right? :P

(Please answer my question, I would be interested to find out =D)

NMK
10-09-2006, 11:44 AM

To be honest I've only bought 1 pack in my entire life, all my friends smoke and they share with me, and no I'm not using them, they want to share with me.

But still I'd hafto say that if a pack costs over 8$ I'd rather be without.

wow nmk your the worst kind of smoker..... :/

named to answer your question...hmmmm probably 12 bucks. i know pathetic right.

i smoke but im not your typical smoker. im not out of shape i dont smell bad ect ect.

when i wake up every morning i run anywhere from 3-6 miles a day and monday wend fri i go to muy thai and boxing training. i dont have trouble running and i usually smoke just short of a pack a day. so yes it does effect my health im sure id be able to run more/faster if i didnt but it doesnt matter cause come december i wont have that problem.

Believe me, he knows that I don't smoke (which I do) and since a lot of my friends smoke it's a huge posibility that it was their packs, and believe me I can be quite convincing at times when I really need to.

Yuber
10-13-2006, 03:58 AM
My dad doesn't really give a shit that I smoke, considering he smokes a ton of cigarettes himself, and also pot. I'm also living on my own, which helps. It's still an annoying habit(the cigs, not the pot) that I should absolutely quit before I reach 30, but for now I'll enjoy my smokes.

That may sound retarded, because the longer one smokes, the harder it is for one to quit, but I just straight up enjoy smoking cigarettes. They don't get you high, but god damn do they help me wake up and they're also fantastic after a good meal. However, whenever I feel like I'm getting out of shape, I'll quit. Easier said than done I know, but I'm confident that I could quit if I really wanted to.

NMK
10-13-2006, 04:05 AM
Well Yuber there's a huge age difference between me and you, I'm 14.

About quitting, yes I'm pretty confident about quitting too, that would be around 20 or something.

As Yuber I really enjoy my smokes after let's say after a good meal, they're also usefull in the morning.

Named
10-13-2006, 05:20 AM
Assuming you live to 30? Or 20 for you, NMK. The mistake too many people make is assuming they are invincible in their youth- they put off their life until a later date. When this is postponed or if they die before they reach this age, they lie on their deathbed wishing life wasn't so short.
But it's not short at all; you're just dying before you live it. It is as I said in the Spam Zone :/

If your ideal self is one who doesn't smoke; if you're not happy with smoking that you imagine yourself quitting at some point; do it now, so you can live your life to its fullest- the way you invision it should be lived.

Think of those terminally ill patients, who in their final prognosed 12 months start to 'live their life'. Selling all their possessions, apologising to the people they feel they've wronged, experiencing what they've always wanted to experience... Is that how you want to turn out? Or do you want to start now, when you may have a great deal more time than 1 year to be truly happy?

Mousie
10-13-2006, 08:40 AM
Not every single person who smokes smells like smoke. How do I know? Most of my friends dont smoke. Probably all of my friends dont smoke. I'm the only smoker.

Every time my friends come into my room they have to ask if I quit because they cant smell it. They tell me to my face "Mousie, you're weird. You smoke but you never smell like it. Why?"

NMK
10-13-2006, 08:46 AM
I'm not happy about me smoking, but not unhappy either. At the time I'm enjoying it but yes I do think of my health and that's one of various reasons I'm planning to stop.

Named
10-13-2006, 09:24 AM
It cannot be only me who smells smoke on every smoker. Or only me who can sense when people around me are unbalanced or unhappy. I can pick slaves to computer addiction from a crowd, it's not hard to spot.

But smoking above all is the easiest. I've never seen a happy smoker in my life. There's always a miserable reason enthralling people to these addictions.

How long does your happiness generally last? And to what end do you believe it will reach?

Hiyo
10-13-2006, 04:12 PM
You don't have to be unhappy to smoke. I know lots of people who are very happy with life and smoke. Although it's still an addiction.... but then again so is playing online games 24/7 for some people and they are happy :P

Named
10-13-2006, 04:42 PM
It seems to be mistaken what I mean by happiness. Every single habit governed by addiction is at root caused by a misery. Smokers are one type of addicts, but all addicts use the focus of their addiction as a distraction from an unpleasant reality or anything in that reality.

How many people spend hours shouting at their game? How many announce, "I fucking hate this level"
"This guy hacks, what bullshit!"
"Stunned again, god damnit this is gay!"
Even those who don't verbalise their annoyance, we all feel it.
The stress, the mental mayhem, all to satisfy a reward-based addiction which holds us viced. An over stimulation of senses!
How many of us walk away from 8 hour gaming sessions beaming with pride for how well invested our time is? Ha! How healthy and happy do we feel, if we were to be brutally honest? It's a terribly shameful feeling! I know it all too well. It used to be how I spent most of my week.
Can you really even equate that to happiness?

There is a distinct difference between a subdued state of mind and happiness. More importantly, there is a huge difference between satisfying a psychological addiction and happiness.

The statement is not that smokers mope around with sad faces constantly. The statement is that there is something in their life being unfulfilled. Smoking can't accomplish that. No addiction can.

So many people forget what happiness feels like; they just stop pursuing it and give in to all these fast fixes and distractions from misery. It's all the same crap...
When these people call their highs happiness, I am overwhelmed by pity. I wish more than anything I could share what makes me happy with them. Even if it is beyond arrogant to say, I feel confident no one would ever go back.

well for 98% i would say named is right.

there are some that smoke such as a cigar for a special occasion. they will never smoke it unless it is an special occasion which can be less than once a year. so its not addiction, but more pleasure over something.

in no way am i saying smoking is good for you. just that there is a small percentage that has control over it and only do it because its a happy/good occasion.

I work with a guy that smokes 1 cigar a week. It helps with his migranes, high blood pressure and stress. It can be good for you in this respect, but those are all psychologically oriented problems, so it really is a minor addiction used to gain sanity, much like coffee in the morning, sugar when you're sad, sex every 2 days etc.

DON'T SMOKE!! IF YOU DO, I WILL CHASE YOU DOWN AND STEAL YOUR CHILDREN 14 YEARS FROM NOW!
