well, we know that Gai knows at least two ways to fight the sharingan, but Kakashi has over 1000 techniques he can use againt Gai. I also believe that Gai is probably faster but Kakashi seems smarter.

I like Gai although Kakashi some people think Kakashi is smarter although he probably has more attacks. Looks and Coolness dont win battles you can have the fashion sense of a porpcupine look of a Stickbug and still beat everyone down like they are smaller insects than you. Kakashi may seem all cool like when Gai tried to give Naruto a body suit like Lees Naruto was like "all right!!!" and Jiraya was like "this is a fashion no no." He is sometimes funny, his look is the Bruck Lee Story with Bruce Lee played by Rock Lee and Gai as some guy that is strong. Hands down Gai can beat Kakashi like there is no tommorow. His Konoha whirlwind looks like Nejis Spinning thingand no doubt just as good.

All these people may like Kakashi because he is supposed to be cool, smart, reads, his Sharingan, one of the main secondary characters, looks nice, always late, lies, has over 1000s jutsus, and the #1 technical specialist. Gai still can beat him even with all that what are you talking about Gai looks great!!! I would say Kakashi because we've seen more of his skills than we have of Gai's. Plus Kakashi has the Sharingan and some nice jutsus to compliment that. Lastly, his personality just makes it seem like he is stronger. He's quiet and reserved but can kick some ass when it comes down to the line.

As for Gai, I respect him. He does talk a lot of smack with Kakashi but he always backs up his word.

I don't think there is proof one is faster than the other but I would think Gai by a landslide. Burrowed Kyubi chakra Naruto is as fast as or slightly faster than Neji. We can assume Neji's speed is on par with Lee since Lee has never beaten him. Gai being slower than Lee seems unlikely to me. Who knows how fast berserk Naruto is though (the one we saw against Haku)?

Going to repeat what I said sometime ago...

I won't be surprised if Kakashi can release the gates. There is also that scene when Kakashi climbing the cliff to the training spot for Sasuke's training prior to the final chunnin exam...Kakashi says "release" right before reaching the top of the cliff.

Still, Kakashi doesn't have the physical training like that of Gai and Lee to sustain the tremendous physical wear on the body that results from opening of the gates. I would think Kakashi's physical max would be around 2 or 3 opened gates if he can open them.

Yeah but my argument is that his body can't handle it. There has been no indication in the anime that Kakashi is in the same leauge in terms of physical fitness as that of Gai or Lee. He probably could open 4 but how long would those effects last with his physical shape? What would be the point of opening them? The risk is too great. Once the effects of the gates wear off, your r finished. Not practical for Kakashi to take advantage of gates even if he could. It doesn't suit his strengths. It actually magnifies his weakness...his stamina.

the only thing about his stamina is when he uses the sharingan. if he doesnt use it then stamina wise hes fine...thats why he uses it as a last resort (other wise known as all the time) he even said that it was his last resort in his fight with zabuza.

however i agree with you narutoninetails. kakashi seems to be geared towards a balance of ninjutsu and taijutsu or physical prowess whereas gai has conditioned himself strictly for taijutsu. it might not be practical that he opens all gates. but i think one would actually help kakashi in a long term fight.

Do you think anyone can compete with Gai and Lee in terms of physical stamina except Naruto? Kakashi even without using the Sharingan can't compete with Gai and Lee in this regard and thus not suited for opening the gates imo. Gates are EXTREMELY damaging to the body. Only those that train their bodies in the most grueling ways will be able to effectively take advantage of the gates imo. Imo, no one other than Gai and Lee fit this description that I have seen from the anime thus far. There is no indication in the anime that any other shinobis concetrate so much time and energy into physical conditioning and taijutsu.

If Kakashi is fighting an opponent strong enough for him to consider using the gates, he would be already using his Sharingan imo. The option of using the gates is thrown out almost immediately after he starts using the sharingan imo.

The anime has mentioned they are on equal in terms of overall strength but they are in that level due to completely different strengths. Kakashi is more of a ninjutsu specialist vesus Gai who is a taijutsu specialist. Which of the two would be concentrating on physical conditioning more given these facts? We have seen how Gai or Lee doing push ups, hand stands, sit ups, etc. Have we seen such training from Kakashi? Only time I remember Kakashi doing anything taxing on his body was climbing the cliff to meet Sasuke...but that was because he had to meet someone not really for training purposes. I don't remember anytime in the anime when it was mention how Kakashi is in top shape or physically strong (Gai was during the invasion of Konoha battles). In terms of speed it isn't even a comparison either. I would believe Gai would be the fastest shinobi in Konoha. He could easily contend for the fastest shinobi in Narutoverse imo.

Sasuke copied Lee's fighting style with training with Kakashi. This supports the idea that taijutsu and speed can't be instantly copied like ninjutsu techniques. With sharingan they have the ability to learn taijutsu and obtain speed faster than anyone though. This doesn't necessarily mean they will become better than the original experts though...everyone has a ceiling and once they approach that ceiling the rate of learning will slow down for Sharingan also imo. If not almost all Uchiha would have been the best at every aspect of being a Ninja. Raising one's own ceiling is what's really difficult. Ability to copy doesn't do that for you...only hard work will imo.

Also how will Kakashi get used to "it" soon? Kakashi would have to train like Gai to some degree to get to Gai's speed level. There has not been any indication of that...so my points are still more valid imo.

Gai is faster than Kakashi because Sasuke said so. I dont know what episode, but for those who have read the manga, Sasuke says that when Gai is first introduced. Sasuke was in disbelief when he said that, so that means that Kakashi is also very fast, most likely not far behind Gai. In any case, 50 wins 49 losses, Gai in the lead. Does that mean Gai is oh so much stronger than Kakashi like so many in this thread seem to claim? By all means no. Weve seen them do things like "Rock-Paper-Scissors" contests. Also, Kakashi's sharingan is a huge part of his strength, but not his only strength. Besides the fact that he has 1000+ jutsu to work off of, when Zabuza thought that just by defeating the Sharingan he could beat Kakashi, Kakashi let him know that he was not only good because of the Sharingan, both in words and in actions.

Kakashi gets my vote because he just seems way more versatile.
