View Full Version : Glasses anybody?

Spectacles, glasses, goggles...and devices that corrects your eyesight and possibly a fashion statement. Do you like it? Do you hate it? Do you wear one? How thick are they? What are the latest tech-info and news? Share you divine love or spiteful hatred for these (usually) over-priced vision corrective devices.

PS: shades and sunglasses are universally loved, so it doesn't count. :P

I have glasses, but not for eyesight.

I was born a cross-eyed, after suregery they corrected that but it made my eyes not cooperate together and thus leaving me to see with only 1 eye at a time.

So after a busy day, my eyes area really tired. The glasses i got are to compensate this. They make my eyes less tired.

i have glasses- maybe because 1 studied too much when i was growing up with light in my eyes.

anyways, my friends say it looks nice on me. Quite expensive though- the newest one i have now. enough to buy a new computer- yes! it took away much of my savings but i like them- changes color in sunlight too.

I don't have glasses even though I should. I'm not near sighted like most people are. I'm far-sighted, which means I can see things from very far away but when objects get within a very close distance, they go blurry.

So I usually hold my books further from myself when I read. The reason I don't have glasses is that I don't need them... what necessarily function of living calls for "close encounters"? None.

And plus being able to see far away is certainly a plus.

No glasses. My vision is, as far as medical testing is concerned, perfect. Also, I apparently have exemplar hearing. Go me!

What?!?!?!? My mom has glasses that get tinted in sunlight, and they have the bendy frame thing and they only cost like $230 CDN. The most expensive ones I've ever seen were $400, but those were some crazy top of the line brand. Maybe glasses are cheaper here from our taxes or something though, kinda like healthcare.

I got glasses, but I hate em. Dunno why, my whole family has em though, its like just genetic lol. Gonna go try out some contacts pretty soon, and see how they are. Sunglasses on the other hand, totally own!

I have glasses on all the time, a side effect of 15 straight years staring at the monitor...(sigh). At times I wish I wasn't short-sighted so i can wear cool shades. Lol...

When i take off my glasses now, I bet no one can recognize me!

just like most things- you should know there are different makes - brands - designs whatever you call them of glasses. and the type you get goes with how much you pay. and of course here is not Canada

i am only one in my family to get classes. maybe unlucky. i intend to make enough for surgery to correct them- of course i was adviced by a doctor.

my left eye is only 30% efficent and glasses cant fix it i have to wear hard lense contacts to reshape the lense of my eye

i lost the contact for my right eye but i dont realy need it anyway but if i wear my left contact cos its so thick its a glassy kinda blue and it makes my left eye a light blue and my rigth eye is the normal blue or green ...depending what colour my eyes decided to chose for that day

People sometimes say it makes you look better if you wear glasses and half of my schoolwears glasses so noo one really thinks about them too much. I'm near sighted, but it was funny because my eyes are pretty bad. I let my friend try on my glasses and she was like how blind are you.

hmm i've had glasses since i was about 14. My vision progressively got worse over the years until now, my left eye is -4.75 and my right eye is -1.25. That is, I'm very short sighted in one eye and not so bad in the other. My left eye used to be -5.25 or so, so there has been a minor improvement in my vision, not that i notice anyway. I tried wearing contact lenses but my eyes dry up quickly so I don't think i'll be keeping with those anymore.

I've broken 3 pairs so far. 2 just fell apart and the other was destroyed by my dog...

from what I know, these things are uber expensive...

Kuchiki
02-13-2006, 09:22 PM
prices vary. Depends on a number of things. The frame design and designer, the type of lenses you need, how thick they need to be, Then there is the commision for the optometrist.

The lenses can be where the price gets high especially if you are seriously short sighted, or myopic as it is known (like me but only in one eye) or long sighted. For myopic people, the more short sighted you are the thicker and heavier the lens gets, but you can get what are know as high index lenses which do the same thing as a thick heavy lens but weigh up to a quarter of the weight of a full thickness lens. The higher the degree your short sightedness the more epxensive it gets. For me, a typical frame and lens can cost up to A$400 or around US$300, the most expensive glasses i've got were around A$650, because the frame was lightweight a titanium alloy.

ColdFire
02-13-2006, 09:44 PM
I got those titanium alloy ones and they were like $220 Canadian, and I'm nearsighted. Not to mention my moms insurance covers $200 of that lol.

I'm assuming glasses are cheaper in Canada, probably something taken off from the whole health care thing or something, becasue all these prices you guys are saying are completely unheard of to me lol.

tsunade ^_^
02-14-2006, 05:44 AM
I have a pair of Titanium Green DIESEL glasses! It cost me R1700! The insurance only covered like R800! SO in $ I guess we have to devide it through 6 = $283! Not that big of a difference!

this is not how it goes here, we have stores where every frame costs 35 euro. no matter what it is. The glasses minimum cost 50euro (per glas) no matter what focus they have. Wich brings every set of glasses to a base of 135euro. I got mine on sale, by accident where they gave another 40euro discount making it glasses of 95euro.

Anti reflex is standard, if you want other things like glass glasses then it costs you extra.

haha! Hey, are those the sunglasses I helped you find? ;)

Hmm, I wear glasses when driving, or reading things far away in class. I can't see things in long distances, rather; I can see, but can't read. So ofc, driving is a pain when you can't make out street signs, argh...

I prefer my lenses though, when my eyes decide not to hate them :) Much much more convenient to wear, and much better to see through. I rely heavily on my peripheral vision, and my glasses pretty much rob that from me.
