Why is it that no other Jounin is quite as badass as Kakashi or Gai? And they make the ANBU look like table scraps.

I think Kakashi is probably the strongest of the jounins. He has Sharingan, knows over 1,000 jutsus, and is strong in taijutsu as well (look at how he was crushing the Sound forces during the battle for Konoha).

I am almost certain that he Is an older Lee in most ways so I can also imagine that he has the same weaknesses as Lee where Kakashi however seems to be nothing shout of Genius...

i think one of the reasons gAI has such low votes is as compared to Kakashi whose sharingan is a main stay in the anime
Gai's character hasnt been developed and given much airtime as compared to Kakashi
just like how many changed their minds after they saw Shikamaru/Temari fight agst Tatsuya a mission or more time might help Gai a little on this forrum to get some votes

But you have to see it in two ways... FIRST Zabuza used tricks on Kakashi and in turn the fight was more about style then strength... And SECOND as it was the beginning of the anime the writers must have felt that they could not show true power til later on otherwise everything would be too open...

And don't forget the caliber of Itachi... that would not be an easy job for most...

i think most of us will agree that The Naruto Sasuke fight was an exception- hell they are the main characters of the show. Even the fight between Sandaime and the Sho- and Ni-daimes wasnt made quite as spetacular. so we cant just say that Kakashi strength displayed during the fight with Zabuza was low.

anyways one thing too is that even with a 1000 jutsus fighting in a certain terrain would make certain jutsus ineffective and others useful. and u will only use the techniques that would help u in a fight - right

venin... the bottom line is that the anime directors probably thought that it would be best to leave all the hardcore battles to the later episodes then it wound not make the anime look like it was degrading,

Once Kakashi actually started going all out, he won against Zabuza almost immediatly. The first part of his fight against Zabuza was just them fooling around, Kakashi even says so. But once he decided to summon, the fight was over in about two moves.

Remember how Zabuza kept trying to attack Kakashi and he just disabled his arms without even trying? That's Kakashi at full strength.

Course, during the first Kakashi/Zabuza fight, Kakashi made a mistake and tried to retreat into the water. I guess he forgot he was fighting a Mist-Nin. And the Itachi fight really doesn't show much either. Itachi is a Kage level fighter, and Kakashi didn't realize he couldn't block the Goddess of the Moon technique with his Sharingan. Itachi just completely outclasses Kakashi on several levels.

i think part of the reason why Gai and Kakashi are perceived strongest is that among all the jounins in the village we have seen those two and asuma-kurenai senseis have more airtime

Dont forget in the sandaime- Oro arc we saw some of the jounins come out and display their skills. Choujis, Ino, Shikamarus fathers and some others. I think most will agree that Choujis father would have strength close to Tsunades raw power. Just dont forget what chouji did when he had those pills- raw power

Real Ninja used swords... since they were used almost exclusively for assassination and espionage missions they would use a large number of disguises. Including Ronin (Masterless Samurais)... who would obviously use a sword.

Even when not disguised like that, Ninjas made frequent use of Wakizashi, a kind of short Katana, since it could be drawn faster then a normal Katana and thus allow them to strike quickly, and escape while the enemy was still confused.

Of course they also used shuriken, and kunai (which actually are not throwing weapons, despite what Naruto may have you believe). As well as limited gunpowder tools, such as smoke bombs or firecrackers. As well as all sorts of everyday items, that could be used as a weapon. (generally fitting with their disguise, a Ninja disguised as a butcher would use a butcher knife, a craftsmen, a hammer, and so on).

O_o' Did you ever see a ninja before this anime? Ninja's use swords, just smaller and straighter blades that are consealed easily. Ninja's of the REAL world use swords, shirukens, kunai knives, dust, crossbows, and all sorts of hand to hand combat.

Samurai used several types of swords... typically each Samurai carried what was called a "Daisho" which means "big and little", as the Samurai would carry the bigger Katana, and the smaller Wakizashi. While the Katana was generally used in combat, the Wakizashi was considered the more important of the two blades, as it was a symbol of his status as both a man, and a Samurai.

Anyway, swords can be identified by length...

<30cm = Tanto (Knife)
30-61cm = Shoto (Short Sword, the Wakizashi was a form of Shoto)
61cm-1.5m = Daito (Long Sword, this includes Katana)
>1.5m = Nodachi

On a related note, Wakizashi's and Katana are only called as such when worn in the proper way. A Shoto only becomes a Wakizashi if it is presented to a Samurai in a certain ceremony. And a Daito is only a Katana if it is worn blade up in a belt sash. If it is held blade down through a cord it becomes a Tachi.

So to sum it up... the only true "Samurai Sword" is the Wakizashi, as it was their honor blade. But Samurai's used several different types of blades.

I was trying to just get off that subject and get back to the original subject. So you know, I read them all. At least with Kurenai we have a basic idea of her techniques, as she's a Genjutsu specialist, but Asuma is still a wildcard.
