I have been looking around these board for a while and can't help but luagh at the comments you guys make about perfectly good dubs like FMA here. How is it butchered? Why is it so bad? I want to understand your way of thinking. after all i love opinions.

Well I haven't seen the sub; but I thought the dub wasn't half bad.

The reason is the dub cuts out as usual... language.... and of course the gore... there is isn't excessive gore in FMA but there are some scenes that some may consider as gore (people getting limbs ripped off / blown off/ cut off etc etc etc... don't think they include this in the dub ;/

well remember, the made-for-tv dub is not the same dub version you'd find on an uncensored release of the DVDs...
so I'd rather say the tv-version is what edited, not the dubbing crew themselves :P

Even still i still say the sub is superior... voice acting is usually better ont he japaense side

Well, The voices aren't that bad, but they certainly never translate Ed and Al's ages, I mean, At the beginning of the anime, their ages change constantly, and in the dubbed version (either on TV or DVDs) they don't translate the ages, so you just see japanese letters on the screen...

The first episode of the dub FMA that I saw contain a considerable amount of gore (the part where Ed's limbs blow off); I was about to let my step brother watch it, but decided not to after seeing that part.

the dub isn't so bad (like Naruto), i'd have to say it's equal to the Japanese VAs

Agreement here. I buy the DVDs as they come out and they both are similar. Except that it is true that some stuff is cut out in the English version, such as the pocketwatch at the beginning of the Japanese intro.

As for the VA that plays Al in the dubbed version, he also plays Dark in DNAngel and other ADV Films anime.

So, if you don't compare the two, you'll really see what they each represent, their own style and uniqueness.

ed sounds too girly in the sub, but al sounds just a bit too much kiddi like. im equal in both, i like both versions, both sub and dub
