We've seen what the Shukaku looks like when fully released, and we've seen Naruto when he's been close to releasing the Kyuubi... and I've noticed a lot of similarities between the two. Let's review...
Gaara's seal is a lot weaker then Naruto's, this was due to the fact that the Sand saw him as a weapon, and the Shukaku as a special weapon inside him. While the Fourth simply wanted to seal the Kyuubi and have Konoha forget the whole deal. That leads to an imporant point...
It's a lot harder for Naruto to release the Kyuubi, then for Gaara to release the Shukaku.
However, when you look at them, they have very similar powers...
The Shukaku protects Gaara with sand, and is capable of moving without Gaaras consent.
The Kyuubi, in Naruto's released form protects him with Chakra, which also moves regardless of Naruto's will.
However, Gaara is able to do this in his normal form, Naruto can only access this when he is releasing the Kyuubi (and not just using its chakra, when his actual body changes)
That leads to the second thing, when Gaara releases the Shukaku he looks more like it, but still retains some features that make him identifable as Gaara....
When Naruto releases the Kyuubi he gains more foxlike features, fangs, claws, foxeyes, etc. But is still recognizable as Naruto...
Which leads to the conclusion, since Gaara is more or less the same as Naruto in regards to his demon releasing (though he can do it easier) and that Gaara can go beyond his released form and actually become the Shukaku itself, it is reasonable to say that Naruto could accomplish a similar thing, transforming into the Kyuubi (like he did with Gamabunta) and possibly even allowing it to take control of him temporarily (like Gaara does with the forced sleep technique)
