Personally I think Yama truly is the strongest character in SS. I know Aizen looks strong but nothing really indicates how strong he is. I know he defeated a lot of captains but if he has done something thats given him more strength I think he is still a noob with that new strength. I think Yama has probably gone as far as a shinigami can do with training and it's probably more than anyone else.

They gave the impression Aizen was crazy strong though. But his fighting style seems well thought out and experienced compared to a lot of the other captains. I think versus Hitsugaya and Dog-face captain it was a lot more easy avoidance due to them being emotionally charged.. and Ichigo was just worn out. So I wouldn't be surprised if the time comes for someone to fight Aizen and he isn't as Godlike as he was at the end of the prefiller arc.

i think that rukia's brother would beat kenpachi because his bankai has like 3 different stages. but i think he has more than 3 stage.

imo its either kenpachi or byakuya who would take the crown, but byakuya may have an edge since kenpachi has this foolhardy habit of taking hits just to rub it in his opponents face how much stronger than them he is
he might try that with senbonzakura and get his ass shredded
