I can't believe they killed Maes. It made me cry. FMA is really dramatical. They should have made his family die or something. BUT NOT MAES HUGHES!

I was more surprised than sad or annoyed. I did like his character, but it really reflects the maturity of FMA... People die, and they weren't afraid to include that reality.
It was refreshing.

I was pissed to say the least.

But can you not agree that it's a strength of FMA?
I adore their 'realism' :P

Think about what would happen to Maes if his family died..... He loves his family more than anything in the world....And knowing FMA he would of commited suicide...So eather way he'd end up dead...At least he died trying to do something about it....

Oh yeah, let's kill off Gracia and Elicia instead, that's a whole lot better than killing off the Lieutenant Colonel.

But yeah, I was upset too. I missed the first season, so I didn't have to suffer through it (though I probably will when I get the DVD) but I read it in the manga and I sat there and bawled.

It wasn't the fact that he died that got me to tears. It was sad, Maes was awesome, but I didn't get all too upset. It was when his daughter was at the funeral asking her mother why they were burying daddy.

"Mommy, why are they burying Daddy? He has to go to work! Tell them to stop! MOMMY!"

God. FMA is by far the best anime I've seen evar. It delivers so many moments like that.

I know, poor Maes! Right now I'm writing a fanfic where he comes back as a homonculous, but he's not his..normal self. :(

In the manga I really didn't care about him dieing...he came off so annoying in the manga. In the anime he was a lot cooler, kinda sucked he died, but still no big tragedy, IMO.
