CONFIRMED: the blonde akatsuki is a guy. he says "oira" which is the masculine form of referring to one self in japanese.

The confusion inane had going on was that the akatsuki guy said "danna" which means "husband" if a woman says it but also means "big boss."

Wow...Gaara lost. :shock: The guy whom not even Naruto could completely beat (I would call their fight a draw), who has survived multiple assassination attempts even when he was a kid...lost. :shock:
It was cool to see how much he has changed though--he cares deeply about his village and wants to be acknowledged as its protector, just like Naruto. And he achieved his goal of becoming Kage--hopefully Naruto will too someday!
Edit: I just realized something: Gaara appears to be unconscious at the end of the chapter. When Gaara is not conscious, the bonds on Shukaku loosen...something tells me the Akatsuki pair are going to be in for a bit of a surprise next chapter... :)

Wow i'm suprised the gaara acutally lost to this guy. I'm aslo suprised at how freekin smart that guy was. Using his ultimate defense against him was just genious. However the fact the gaara is knocked out does play a key role here. The Shukaka Takes control when gaara isn't awake. Which is why he's always awake. So those two akatsuki members are probably in for a suprize. Not to mention word has reached naruto and he'll definety go after gaara. Personally I do belive Naruto is even stronger than Gaara. Yea Gaara is the kazekage and a flat out bad ass but look at naruto for a minute. First of all Naruto was a little bit stronger than Gaara in their first fight. Now if Naruto grew in strength and ability evenly with Gaara that would place him at just above Gaara's Level. However more than likely Naruto grew at a greater rate than Gaara due to the 9 tails help. In order to give some support to this theory we look at Naruto's skill growth to date. Before he even officialy graduated the ninja academy he mastered the kage bushin no jutsu, a jounin level technique. Second we look at his first encounter of training with Jiraya. After 1 month, just one month with him Naruto nearly mastered the summoning of gama bunta, learned to call upon the 9 tails chakra when he wanted in and nearly mastred the rasengan. The rasengan I remind you is a technique that took the fourth hokage 3 years to master. Nartuo nearly mastered it in a week. Also look at his fight against kabuto. Kabuto is a ninja that is on par with kakashi. Kakashi is one of Konoha's strongest ninja's. Naruto acutally managed to hurt Kabuto beyond his abiltiy to heal himself. Which means before the two and a half year training session when he got serious he could hold his own against even Kakashi. Now then we also look at the focus of Jiraiya's Training the first time. He focused on teaching naruto how to use the kyuubi chakra and teaching him powerful high level techniques. Now Jirayai being at the level he is no doubt continued on with these focuses. Only added more like improving overall chakra control, and increased taijustu skill. As well as improve his speed, agility, and reaction time. Also teach him better tactics and increasing his overall inteligence. Now putting all of those thingsy together it's pretty easy to see how naruto most likely is even more powerful than Gaara. Now then as for the storyline right now more than likely akatuski has done it's research and now how to handle the shukaka. The shukaka will probably slow them down long enough for naruto and back up to arrive. The naruto will process to open some woop ass on akatsuki.

Yeah, the extent of his change in personality surprised me too. The way he used the last of his power to protect the village from that bomb, and what he said in the flashback about wanting to become Kage so that he could be respected rather than feared...it really shows how much his encounter with Naruto has influenced him. Overall, this chapter had a really good mix of action and character development, imo.

I really hope Skukaku comes out. I like the big funny sand-racoon. But just like others have speculated. I get the feeling that the two Akatsuki's would be able to handle it, probably by some sort of seal.

An obvious reason Akatsuki are after Naruto and Gaara are the demons inside of them. They want their power, that much can be assumed. How they will extract it and in what way they will use it is unknown. We have the "one-tail"-Gaara and the "nine-tails"-Naruto. This leads me to believe there may be more demons out their. Mabye a "two-tail", a "three-tail",etc....or mabye they're demons without tails! Who knows! All I know is it would be interesting to meet some new characters with demons inside of them and watch them kick butt. I particularly like seeing demon fights, they're real fun imo. I think each Akatsuki member should have their own personal pet demon. I thought this would stir some interesting comments. What new demon would you like to see in the Naruto-universe??? Do you think there will be any more? What do you think Ataksuki will do with the demons???

I think that Gaara is playing possum, or, racoon till they get to a more secluded spot.
I feel that whats gonna happen, is just like when Naruto used the nine-tails power while facing Sasuke. He called upon the fox and unleashed him of his own will, and was still in control of himself, kind of like a symbiot relationship with the nine-tails. I think Gaara has learned to control his furry friend even while he's under it's influence.

naruto do not control the kyubi, he control the chakra that the kyubi lend him, its not like he can summon it, remember the fourth, the best of all hokage, died sealing it into naruto. naruto couldn't just use it like gama bunta. and that's the same for garaa and the one tail.
