About Gai...

Everyone seems to be under the impression that Gai is a taijutso person only, just because Lee is. Has anyone else even *considered* that this isn't necessarily or even probably the case?

his ninjutsu and genjutsu are just quite low for a jounin, but he is at least concerning that at a chunin lvl.

Taijutsu is what hes good at. It doesn't mean he doesn't have ninjutsu. He trained his taijutsu a lot and it prolly takes the least effort for him to do that. Why would you use an attack to get rid of an enemy that takes too much chakra when you can do the same with simple taijutsu.

because using taijutsu lowers stamina and lowers chakra using ninjutsu will allow you to use stamina and molded chakra being good in taijutsu should increase stamina but look at it this way lee a user is just a chunin garra a ninjutsu user is a kazekage and it dosent matter what country that still is an acheivement

We know he has ninjutsu abilities because he is able to walk on water. In the chapter(s) where Kakashi get's OWNED by Itachi, Gai jumps in at the last second and takes him away...AFTER standing and fighting a little on the watter. So, we know he can do it. Basically, like everyone has stated, he just prefers to use Taijutsu. It's his forte, not his limiter.

and plus the fact that he was able to dispel the effects of the genjutsu during the chunnin exams means that he has at least some talent in the area of genjutsu. at least thats what it means imo

so heres how it goes. as a noob gai has mediocre taijutsu and almost no talent for ninjutsu. so he train taijutsu like crazy.but still had ninjutsu. i think it was mentioned somewhere that rock lee was the only person to become a ninja without ninjutsu. not completely sure. but im sure gai could at least do the low level ninjutsu. genjutsu kai walk on water and so forth. i mean walking on water takes a good amount of chakra control. better than sasuke's old control(running up tree time) and sasuke could still perform fire jutsu's right?

He summoned a turtle didn't he? Thats evidence enough hes not only Taijutsu.

I believe so, yes, Lee was the first successful ninja to pass on Taijutsu -alone-
And I don't know if Gai actually summoned that turtle, unless it's been seen and I missed it? o_O

Well.... if Gai was only a Taijutsu user and had no other abilities... why would people be taking the michael out of Lee... and have the opinion no one can "make it" with Taijutsu alone, seeing as Gai is jounin >.>

I agree we've never seen him use anything... but then again... we haven't seen him do much...

that's a fair enough point... Kakashi can 'predict' jutsus... so go with what doesn't need seals... the fists... but my point was that it would be a huge inconsistancy in the storyline if Gai couldn't use anything but Taijutsu :D

as kakashi's rival, gai figured that by going the opposite direction that kakashi goes(jutsu vs. taijutsu), he would be able to defeat him. it seems like he spent his life training to defeat sharingan. when Itachi showed up Gai knew already how to avoid the effects of Itachi's mangekyo sharingan.

gai knows ninjutus and genjutus. the reason we don't see him use it is because he is a master in taijutus. he likes using taijutus better then nin and gen.

Maybe he didn't know about the mangekyou specifically; he just knew that Sharingan has some type of hypnotic ability?

Yeah. Contrary to popular belief, the mangekyo isn't the only eye hypnosis technique. Orochimaru used one on that guy that he most recently possessed. Remember the snake that appeared for a few seconds?

Why he do not use ninjutsu?
I think that he do not want lee to find out he can use those techniques and lee will not be able to use them.

His ninjytusus might be as strong as the ones kakashi uses

coz he isnt good at it.

he can do basic ninjutsu most likely but nothing extreme.

lee on the other hand cant mold the chakra, but doesnt mean he cant use it. he uses chakra for tree climbing and jumping and standing on water.

Why does it matter if Lee sees him using ninjutsu? Lee is his own shinobi, with his set of skills, while Gai is a completely different shinobi, with his own set of skills.

Gai way of ninja is to make lee an excellent ninja, he even told him that when he need it the surgery and he said that if lee died he would also die.

Now imagem you have a teacher that you think is the coolest and has thought you a lot and you even dress like him. Now after all this time you (gai) start using amazing ninjutsus and summonning. How do you think LEE will feel when he is not able to perform them?

Also kishi said that he will keep gai and lee the way they are and that they represent the weak human spirit.

Anyways, what Lee modeled himself after Gai is his work ethic. Regardless of whether he can use ninjutsu or not, Lee would still respect Gai because of that, so no, it doesn't really matter.

I really like Gai. Gai vs. Kakshi is just another example of Naruto vs. Sasuke and probably Oro vs. Jiraya. How, one is really talented like Kakashi, Sasuke, ad Oro. The other has determination and hard worker rather than born genius.

Gai is a really funny character. I remember that his gates tech. gives him Hokage level power during that period.
