ok it begins with just a regular high school boy who can see ghost and i giant hollow(lost soul) atacks his family and a girl shows up and she is a deamon slayer but the hollow hurts her and transfers her powers to the boy and thats ill ill tell u with out spoiling anything msage my and ill send u some episodes

umm...high school guy...he can see ghosts and his family can too,cept his dad lol..
and then when he enters his room or something he meets this girl whos a soul reaper....and then after battle this hollow the girl had to give him PART of her powers but instead he took all of her powers..

thats basically HOW he became a soul reaper.

and then...yea mostly,out of the current ones ive read, its about him battling hollows. ^^

good explanations guys oh and hollows are souls with no hearts and they are turned into monster looking things. Wandering souls get devoured by Hollows and they turn into them its kinda like never ending thing.

The main charecter has a high amount of spirit energy, so 2 Hollows, a dead human who has lost his heart to darkness, attack his city, one attack a girl ghost he can see, and one is killed by the Death God, or Soul Reaper. You then find out that he has enormous spirit energy/spirit awareness...and he becomes a Soul Reaper himself.

Thats basicly the first episode, but you can go from there. Definitly an anime to watch in my opinion.
