I tend to like creations done on your own, and not just copied... because just about anybody can copy a drawing from someone else... but to be original takes talent.... but I dont bash copying, because as long as you're having fun it doesnt really matter.

Those that really have a talent in making their original artwork won't be wandering around here. You don't see artist in here, but copy-ninja~

Thats bullocks i dont copy any of my stuff. I may take character idea but position angle lighting and the like is all on me. http://photos.yahoo.com/totalsoulfuture and yeah some of it may be bad like the sasuke picture but I still have far more pride then I would have had I copied it. (I'm taking offense to you calling me not an artist)

I agree... no matter how bad, or how good it is... if it's an original, then you're an artist.... if it's a copy, I don't consider you an artists, because anybody with a pencil and paper can copy someone elses work, but to come up with your own scenario for the art, and to draw it out of your own mind, and not just copy it off of something, takes skill.

Define your original bro....
Having a Naruto Artwork where you can't find from anywhere, that's what you mean by original?

As if you are.
AND by the way, did I call myself an artist?

If an artist draws a portrait of somebody then you could say they are "copying" the image of that person because they are drawing what they see.
No matter how good the "copy" is it is just how the person sees an image expressed in to the best of their ablity.

To me there are only 3 ways you can say someone is not an artist:
1) If they trace an image thats of their own creation
2)Simply changing some colours (ie. slight photoshop edit)
3)Photocopying (obviously)

I think they were all very nice , i WHISH i was that good.Cheese and rice. But some of you do need practice at drawing hands (Don't worry , i don't think anybody , including me , can draw hands)

hands are so goddamn hard to draw =/ but yeah, I'm really surprised Orochimaru isn't winning...that was the most well done picture...the first one wasn't too bad but it was a bit out of perportion.

yeah i would have to agree here. not everybody that has a pencil and paper can take an image look at it and reproduce it to almost exact or even if it is close without having a good deal of skill . you must remember dweezil not everyone is as talented with art as you seem to be

actually, everyone is.. it's just the people that "aren't" never try.. trust me, anyone can reproduce an image by looking at it.

I agree with this completely.

I can't say I've very involved with the topic, but... just taking a glance through the various forums, and came across it :P

It is true that not everyone can copy very well... but I would call those "copied" works magnificient copies, not original artworks. It shows the talent of your hands, but not the creativity of your mind... does that make sense?
I think "art" is a combination of you physical talent, -and- the brilliance of your creative idea. One or the other alone can't do it, but I think when both combine, you have the best art out there.

I'll be honest.. I used to copy quite a bit...
But I never claimed full credit for my images, because I knew that the idea was not mine. It wasn't until years later (now, in fact) that I can draw my own ideas and convey my own inspirations, that I am actually proud of my work :)
You can get pride from copying well, it is a skill... but it's the most wonderful thing to be able to create a new vision you have inside your mind, and put it onto paper. It's amazing, and for those of you who are good copiers... I highly recommend trying it. If you have the talent to draw it, don't limit yourselves to someone else's ideas; become your own artist.
