I've seen Naruto DVDs all over ebay and on several sites. They all say they are imports, but I've heard that they are just poor copies. What does everyone think about the DVDs from discountanimedvd.com and ebay?

This topic should be posted in the 'Entertainment' section. It's moving time...

Yeah because the dvds aren't official or anything... unless suddenly naruto got licensed, so someone is burning them "out of their basement" and I'd rather watch and download them myself.

Since my computer is ungodly slow, I am trying to find someone with a fast connection who will burn Naruto episodes onto a DVD for me. Hard to find people in my area who will. >_<

My friend bought such a Naruto box off the internet... Big mistake, it wasn't an official one. The subtitles sucked really bad. Many spelling mistakes etc. Seriously, you don't want that, unless you speak perfect Japanese.

Hmm.. I wonder is their Pocky as crappy as their dvds?
Well at least I can still order the manga right?

I've posted this link a few times, but it's helpful.
http://www.digital.anime.org.uk/piratefaq.html

Helps you know what anime's are fake or real...even stores have the pirated ones sometimes without knowing it.

And I wouldn't reccomend buying naruto DVD's until after it is licensed and has an official boxed set.

But how will we (more or less me) know about this?

The best way to avoid pirate DVD boxsets is not to buy them...unless you trust where you're buying them from.... in many cases you can think about it....
Me gonna take Excel Saga as an example...seeing as me ended up with a pirate boxset :roll:
excel saga = 26 episodes... the average anime DVD would hold 6 episodes ... so you're looking for a boxset with 4-5 DVDs.... (mine had 3)....

Me has been using that link Coldfire gave for a long time now....as it does give the manufacturers of pirate DVDs....
(taken from that site)...if the DVDs are by any of these companies, it's probably a fake;

* Animation International
* Animation Japan International
* Anime Cartoon
* Anime Cartoon International
* Anime Studio
* Another DVD Company
* Digital International
* DVD Ani
* fx
* Indian International
* K
* MAC (Manga Anime Cartoon)
* Manga International
* Video Animation

me just had a quick look through http://discountanimedvd.com/ for you.... it seems ok....it seems to have DVDs from trusted companies like ADV.... although they could just be claiming that that's who made them, when in fact its someone else.....
the mangas from there should be fine though

If those were the ones on discountanimedvd you were talking about, then you probably shouldn't get them. They say they are by anime cartoon, and they are bad.

This boxed set looks more official, but is buy fx, who are another group of pirates.

This one is the closest to a real one I can find, it's by anime city International, sounds close to some of the pirate groups but this one could be real. They only have a few volumes out so far, so that's further reason to believe its real. Also 25 eps for 3 disks is common. This one is your best bet to buy.

These ones don't look bad either, the only thing that makes me wonder is how different the dvd logo is each time.

I dunno about discountanimedvd..... me checked the Azumanga Daioh sets.... they were by ADV....
i guess they're not knowingly selling pirate copies.....
or then again...maybe they're just turning a blind eye.... it looks ok for some stuff tho

EDIT:
just checked the http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=617&item=6338177311&rd=1
that equates to about an average of 8 episodes per DVD.... as i said.... the most on licensed anime DVDs is almost always six.... they can make a bit more money that way (only 3 episodes per DVD on Hellsing O.O)...
Anyways.... it seems way too overpriced for my liking...
the box is pertty basic...something like that can be easily faked.... afterall, if it is pirate they would do a sloppy job on the case....it would be too much of a give-away
