Basically the two elric brothers are alchemists who try to resurrect their mother but in failing one of them loses his body and his brother binds his soul to a suit of armor, and loses his arm and leg in return, so he has to get auto mail. Their mission is to find the Philospher's stone which ignores the rule of alchemy that says you must give something of equal value to receive whatever you are transmuting.

It's an awesome show, I downloaded 1-40 and didn't stop watching until i was done with them, and at that time I started downloading 41-45....

Err sorry that was me, they need to disable guests =/. Anyways, I meant to say 'Their mission is to find the Philospher's stone blah blah, so they can get the original body, arm and leg back.

it's been licensed, your best bet is suprnova.org to get episode bundles....i have a link to a site that does episodes 31+ otherwise you're SOL

Your best bet is Kazaa and IRC. IRC is fast when you d/l from the bots and they have the episodes archived. I personally use IRC.

You could use Kazaa but its usually slower.

Lets see...

The first 10~ episodes are really good (like better-than-most-Naruto-episodes good). Then it sucks for about 15 episodes (like worse-than-most-Naruto-fillers bad). After that, the series' story twists and totally hooks you in and starts getting really interesting.

Overall, it's a good series, but not as good as Naruto.

I've only watched the first 3 episodes, and they're like random stories, later in the anime is there like an interesting storyline??

Actually, the "random stories" all connect in some way.

fallen

it got an much better storyline than naruto

09-19-2004, 03:55 PM
What was wrong with 10-25? It wasn't worse than Naruto fillers! It was relevant story, for farks sake.

Strange :|

I agree with the 'better storyline' comment. It seems to have more thorough planning, better structure and an ultimately more serious story than Naruto.
But it is a shorter series...

I also never encountered this 'random stories' thing???
What random stories? You can't expect complete understanding in the introduction of a story :| I don't throw books in the fire for not explaining character/story build-ups in the first chapter.
Have patience; it's a brilliant anime. I was never bored or annoyed by it...

he he~~ yep yep~ FMA ROCKS!!! 8) (like Rock Lee when he's drunk and fighting in his 'drunken master' -style!!)

yeah~ and i especially like the way in which the animation is just so professional (like the opening of episode 45-the 'REWRITE' song!!!! just really blows you away....ummmm, blew ME away....sorry) :P

Also, the storyline is excellent and the anime crew of FMA just knows how to move the story along really well (as in they don't drag it out)! The only thing about it though is that the story for the anime and the story for the manga diverge quite a bit and those 'manimas' (pronounced 'mah-ni-mahs'-ppl who read the manga as well as watch the anime of the same story together) will know what i'm talking about cos the ppl die at different stages and the boy called 'Wrath' is not in the manga (yet??) while in the anime he becomes one of the central characters on the bad-guy's team. Also, stuff like how 'Greed' dies don't correlate at all~ neither does the whole 'Dante' story....cos in the manga it hasn't come out yet.....if it's supposedly even coming up at all??!! lolz, anyhow~ it doesn't matter all that much cos both the manga and the anime are great!!

ohz, and just in case it makes a diff~~ for those who haven't watched it yet, it really is worth it ..... even if it's just too see Ed getting worked up cos he's being called SHORT!!! h ehe~~ lolz, yeah.....ohz, on the sideline....the manga has a better quality of humour than the anime (just my personal opinion~)

yeah~ anyhow........PLEASE WATCH FMA!!!! It'll bring out the alchemist in you~!!! jk jk :D

Its pretty good...I don't like the art that much though....and that guy louie armstrong looks...hmmmmmmmm

Characters are a mixed bag...ed and al are quite compelling...and that guy who had the kid and wanted to tell the world about it (lieutenant something) was pretty damn funny

Overall its worth alook no doubt

Jeez...
First of all, Al is not a robot, he is a soul encased in a suit of armor.
Secondly, he was only a child when he was sealed into the armor, hence the little kid's voice (which is superb IMO in the English version)
Thridly, they kept the music the same....save maybe a little change....which I would doubt you would even notice seeing how ignorant you are about the series.
Lastly, people should keep an open mind when watching dubs...they all don't suck, you know! Just becuase it is originally in Japanese, doesn't mean that the voice acting is superior.

vegita625
11-08-2004, 04:16 PM
I saw the dub Sat. and never saw it before, so I checked out the manga and read the first couple chapters. Not everything in the manga is identical with how it happens in the anime (for example, Rose was in the armor while Cornelo talked about using the faithful as an army that didn't care about death but then rejoined Cornelo right before the Chimera battle because "Who else will restore your b/f if I don't keep this stone?"), but where the manga's actions and the anime's actions are the same, the dialogue is almost identical, so no probs with the dialogue.
I'm hoping they explain in the next episode what ended up happening to Ed's right arm since only his left leg was lost in the original forbidden alchemy (yes, I know what happened, but for the sake of the new people, I won't tell, most people prolly didn't even notice the right arm was still there in the flashback right after trying to bring back "Mom.") I'm very hopeful as far as dialogue goes and I'm both surprised and glad that certain images weren't censored or cut out of the anime (the flashback was friggin gory, much more gore than in many cut out scenes of previous dubbed animes)

Finally, the only prob I can see with the voices is that you can prolly say "I recognize that voice! That's that guy in InuYasha... and that guy in Kenshin... and that other guy in Gundam Wing... and..." you get the picture...

First of all is it really my fault for mistaking hes not a robot for watching the first episode? Well excuse me Mr.Smartass, Didnt you think he was a robot also when you watched the first episode? I think so, dont even lie about it.

"Jeez"? what do you mean jeez? i only saw the 1st episode for crying out loud, you should know best to know that i cant know all that information in the first 23 minutes (the 1st episode).

2nd of all, i like the japanese anime better. If we wanted to make it in english then we should make our own anime -.- and plus taking off FMA downloading in the internet pisses me off, because if im on episode 35 and the english episods are barely releasing episode 1, im going to have to wait along time for them to catch up, and that is why i want to download

Actually i dont mind seeing the english episodes on TV as long as they keep downloads on the internet.. but oh well.. against the law anyway.

As of now I've seen a lot of the sub-titl4ed episodes and the manga, but I got interested and started loking for the subbed eps. and the manga AFTER watching the 1st episode on CN, in other words, when I saw the 1st episode, that's all I had seen... it's not too hard to tell that Al's not a robot. You don't know a lot of specific details about Al, but I don't know where you'd get the idea he's a robot. For one thing, usually robots have something inside them... ah whatever, not important, and you'll find out soon enough exactly what Al is, it gives much more to the story than "I'm a robot!"

The ending to the FMA series was EXCELLENT. There was a point to the whole series and a lesson to learn. They did something they were supposed to and in the end they had to pay for it. It thought it was sad as hell but it worked perfectly. If they had of given it a happyhappy ending it would have been a completely waste of time watching.

You were talking about the ending for the movie right? Or was it the anime...?

Anyway, the whole story was soo unique, esp. the parallel universe thingy, storytelling and plot was excellent, lots of blood and decapitation, though it got a lil draggy on the Greed arc, things picked up back and woo boy....

The movie actually leaves quite an opening, it is quite possible to have a sequel methinks. I feel that the ending for the movie was unique, but not satisfying enough though....

The ending was "g.. reat". The whole idea behind the story was that you have to make an equal trade if you want to use alchemy. They tried to get their mother back which is something that they shouldn't have done and they paid the price. Then they wanted to find the philosopher's stone to cheat the laws of alchemy and regain what they lost back. As a rule in the end the get a bittersweet resolution rather then the happy ending. If it had of ending perfectly then it would have defeated the entire moral of the story.

I think a lot of people mix up it having a great ending with being a bad ending because the ending isn't satisfying. In the end they don't get everything they want and it's pretty sad. But that's what's so great about it. If they got back everything in the end you wouldn't feel anything for them.

The movie I liked too. I'm glad how it ending although the series ending was enough for me.

Great series. The ending makes you really feel for what you watched.

YES

lol it is by far one of my favourites. i mean the anime. i havent read the manga and dont think i will for a while, but when i do im sure ill like it.

the anime is awesome though. dubbed version kicks ass and so does the subbed version. its got one of the best dubs you will find. the voices match the characters perfectly

its very unique from other animes, and its a good thing to because the plot is just so well thought out. And rather than the usual "if i go at it with all i got i cant loose!" theme in most animes, this one explores "What if i gave it all i got and receive nothing in return".

Its worth a watch for any anime fan. It really deserved a lot of anime awards for what it accomplished.

PS: dont worry about either watching it in japanese or english, both dubs ARE SUPERB INCLUDING THE ENGLISH VOICE ACTING, which was phenomenal surprisingly.

It is definetly thought provoking. And it's refreshing to see that every character goes through the pain of having a weakness. It's also really cool that the abilities are explained in depth unlike many other animes/mangas. It's just an epic series and its very underrated

Oh very much so. Only like 4 episodes have good animation, and even then it lasts for only a minute at most.

The plot of filled with mini-arcs that are useless and pointless intermissions. The plot is ridiculous if you think about it from a big picture perspective.

EDIT: Though I would hardly call it the biggest overhype literally, but as an exaggeration the statement works.

I just started collecting manga volumes (I only have the first 2) of FMA, so obviously I haven't read that much manga. But I will say the last half of the anime made little to no sense. It felt like they rushed points that should have been explained more thoroughly, and stuck on points that felt like they could have been glossed over. While the FMA anime is good (go watch desert punk and come back and tell me FMA sucks lol). I wouldn't even place it in the top 25 of all time.

No , the anime isnt good.

Anyone who claims it is should just stick to the Naruto fillers or go straight to the pro Guiding Light.

Yeah, I don't think I would put it in my top 20, or so, either. I mean there are plenty of others I would rather read and watch. It's beyond me why everyone thinks it's so great.

Anime is overhyped, agreed, but it's still a good anime. I don't watch it much since I read the manga which imo is not overhyped at all, but rather underrated.

Truth be told the ENglish Dub of FMA is amazingly well done. credit where credit is due

I have to agree TLS. the dub is actually good. It doesn't make me feel like I need to stab myself in the face

I consider FMA one of my favorites. Definitely top 5 for me (probably top 3) even though I haven't been following to many series in the last 2 years. Great character development (lot of side characters including the "bad" guys too) and deals with the harshness of reality foiling one's dreams beautifully. Action and battle scenes in the anime are top notch too imo the homonculus are some very scary and formidable foes...they actually have the upper hand in most match ups that the main characters have to overcome. Good stuff.

No, it's not. The beginning is good, but the ending is just crappy enough to nullify all the goodness there.

I thought the beggining was godawful. It was going literally nowhere for the first 10 episodes at least, and even then most were useless to the whole plot.

I agree that beginning of FMA was slower than the rest but it also builds from what was introduced in those episodes. There are lot of cues and themes that permeates nicely to future episodes. And ending was done right. If FMA ended w/ a happy ending I would have been really pissed.

I actually liked the beginning...

The voice actors seemed enthusiastic , the animation was easy to draw so it came out okey , the story hadn't started so didn't have anything to complain about.

can you really blame anyone for then ending though? given that they had to split from the original writers and plot line, i think they did a fairly decent job ending the anime series. The Movie helped seal it too.

Did anyone else think that the movie seemed almost open-ended enough for another movie?

How can you say that? If possible i would like to know why FMA sux so badly! :>

FMA in my opinion is great, the voice on Alphonse is kinda annoying though, but the rest is great.. I like the storyline as well as i like Naruto, though i think Naruto has alot better drawings but, whatever..

It's easy to please me with anime, just toss some love, fighting and a good story, and i'm caught! ^__^
