Nine years ago.
__________
It was extremely early in the morning, in Kumogakure. Young Kamui was sleeping in his bed. He had gone to sleep alone, like usual, because his parents were usually on missions somewhere. Kamui's parents were respected Jounin of Kumogakure. Or at least that's what he believed.
He was having a dream. It was a dream where his parents' backs were facing towards him, while walking, and no matter how much he ran towards them, he could never catch up to them. "Wait father, mother!!", he would cry out but they didn't seem to hear him. It had stayed like that, for what seemed like, an eternity before he finally started catching up to them. As soon as he caught up, that was when it happened.
SFX: BANG BANG BANG
The sudden banging, startled him awake. Kamui, half asleep, started to get up when he heard it again.
SFX: BANG BANG BANG
??????: Is Ryou or Anna there?! Come out, right now!
Kamui's parents' names were Ryou and Anna.
Kamui(thinking): Someone looking for father and mother?
He got up, wondering who it could be. He started to make his way towards the door. He was almost to the door when it was suddenly knocked down. A few people stormed in.
__________
??????: Dammit, they're not here. Miharu, search the house for clues, right now, as fast as possible.
Miharu: Understood, sir.
??????: Captain, what should I do?
Captain: Riku, you go report to the Raikage. Tell him it's, just now, been confirmed that they fled the village with the documents. Also, tell him that... nah, never mind. Go!
Riku: Understood, captain.
SFX:WHISP
Riku was gone in less than a second.
__________
Kamui was, now, trying to make sense of everything that was happening, in front of him. He fell down when they had stormed in. His heart was racing from the abrupt intrusion. But most of all, they were treating his mother and father like criminals! Despite their intrusion, they seemed to pay no mind to him. He finally found enough strength to stand up.
Captain glanced over as the kid stood up. He slowly walked towards Kamui, looking down at the boy, who's face was filled with fear and disbelief.
Kamui(thinking): What... what is this?
"They're kid, huh?", Captain said, with a trace of disgust in his voice.
Miharu: Captain, I found some clues as to where they might be going.
Captain looked away from him, towards Miharu.
Captain: Let me see it.
He looked through the things for a minute. Then he gave Kamui one, last, cold glance, before turning away.
Captain: Alright, let's go meet up with Riku.
In an instant they were both gone.
Kamui just stood there, in shock, from everything that just happened. It had all happened too fast for him to take it all in. His legs gave out from under him as he lost conscious.

Tree Walking Exercise
Part 1
Note: The story has moved forward to present time again.
__________
It was early in the morning, just before the sun came up. Most of the village was still asleep. Kagirinai Kamui was an exception though. He had always been one to get up early and today was no exception.
He finally took the academy exam and became a Genin. Starting today he needed to become serious about his training and get strong enough to uphold his ideals about enforcing the shinobi laws. And then to, one day, reach his parents, who were traitors of the village, and punish them. Kamui had a glint of hate and sorrow in his eyes, when a noise broke the silence.
SFX: GROWL
He looked down at his stomach, surprised. He didn't seem that hungry but that was because he didn't eat much to begin with, he thought.
Kamui(thinking): Well, I guess I can't train on an empty stomach. It'll lower my performance.
He walked outside towards the door to go outside.
Kamui went outside and started walking down the street towards the middle of the village. He lived in a small house, by himself, at the edge of the village. "House" you could call it but, in reality, it was just a single room hut that was given to him out of pity, by the Raikage. Most of the time he declined charity but he didn't want to live out on the street, either, so he decided to live there.
After a while he reached the center of town, where some people were setting their stands and getting ready for what was just another day.
Kamui(thinking): I wonder if they find sitting in a stand selling stuff, all day, fun?
He figured that's what it was like to be a normal civilian, though. He walked up to one of the stands, who was selling some apples. He picked out a few good ones and set down some money and was soon on his way.
__________
The sun was just now starting to rise. After awhile of walking, he finally reached the place he wanted to train. It was an area that had a lot of large boulders and small cliffs and in the middle there was a huge rock that could be seen from the entrance. He made his way around the rocks towards the large boulder.
On the way, he saw a person wearing a headband, leaning against a rock. Must be waiting for his team, he thought. Kamui's team didn't have to meet for another few days.
Before he knew it he was in front of the large boulder. He walked around until he found a place that seemed straight up.
Kamui(thinking): This place will do fine.
SFX: CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH
He gulped down one of the apples he bought earlier, in a few bites.
Kamui: Well, I guess it's time to get started.

Tree Walking Exercise
Part 2
__________
Kamui already understood the meaning behind this training. He needed to mold the correct amount chakra to the bottom of his feet and make it stick to the rock so he could walk up it, like he was walking on the ground. By doing so it becomes possible to walk straight up a wall or stand on a roof. It was the basics for every ninja. When completed he should also have a grasp on how to use chakra more effectively. But he also knew it was no easy task. Even for the best ninja, grasping the technique takes persistence and determination.
The first thing he did was get within a few steps of the large rock, then proceeded to start molding some chakra to the bottom of his feet. After a minute he opened his eyes, quickly, and ran towards the rock. As soon as he put his left foot on the rock, it quickly rejected him, pushing him away from the surface in an instant. It happened so quickly, it caused Kamui's small frame to fall on the ground.
SFX: SLAM
Ouch, he thought. Kamui had been expecting something like this but, doing it for real was a completely different matter. That fall was definitely unforeseen.
Kamui(thinking): What the hell...?
He just laid there on the ground for a second. He could feel some pain in his back from when he fell but what was worse was how humiliating that fall was. He definitely couldn't let it end like this. He got up, covered in dirt.
Kamui(thinking): How uncool.
He could still feel a bit of pain in his back from the fall but he sucked it up and proceeded. He dusted himself off and started again. This time he would try and mold less chakra, he thought. He did so and began to run but, once again, he still molded too much. This time though, he was prepared for the fall though and managed to land on both feet, in a crouching position.
Kamui(thinking): Still too much...?
He tried again with even less chakra this time but slid down immediately. This time he had put in too little in. The genin started getting irritated. The next time he just thoughtlessly molded a comfortable amount of chakra, in frustration, thinking he would fail again but this time it actually stuck. He was surprised. He put both feet on and was now sticking to the rock. He tried taking a step forward and it stuck again. He took another step forward and it stuck. I've got it, Kamui thought. As soon as he thought that, he lost focus of his chakra control and ended up putting in too much chakra again. He was pushed off the rock again. In an instant he found himself laying on his back again.
Kamui: I wonder if I'm cursed to fall on my back, staring at the sky all day?
Kamui got up again and tried again and again. He managed to make it a few steps each time but the height didn't seemed to be increasing. He kept using too much chakra and ended up getting pushed off. But even if he knew that in his head, reality wasn't so easy. He fell again.
By the middle of the afternoon, he still hadn't managed to make much progress and was completely out of chakra. He was covered in dirt and scrapes and completely exhausted from all his failures. He finally had no choice but to take a break for awhile. He went over to get one of the apples he had bought earlier, only to find they had been eaten up by ants. Kamui sighed.
Kamui(thinking): Great. Just great.
