View Full Version : Thread labeling

Hmm this is probably asking a lot and it's probably useless anyways, but I'll put it up for thought lol :p

Well basically the title says it, thread labeling for some of the threads here. I've noticed they had some at other manga forums and thought maybe this would help people recognize threads easier. I've also noticed we have something similar at NC but that it's more or less on a "want to do it or not" basis lol >_<

The concept would be to label threads with their category in square brackets so we can distinguish them. I noticed we had something already similar for some threads but maybe we could generalize it to ease the system.

For example, if I take the manga sections, we could have thread labels such as :

[Predictions]Chapter 396(for example), for the chapter predictions

[Spoilers], for spoilers

[Spoiler talk], for spoiler discussion

[Theory], for a theory and its discussion

[Jutsu], for discussion about one or more jutsus.

[Character], for discussion about one or more characters(perhaps put the exact character name in the brackets)

[Versus], for versus threads

[Discussion], for anything else that I can't think of now lol :p

So yeah, that's the basic idea. I know it's kind of a lot of work for nothing but I thought I'd suggest it anyways. It's not really something to change about the forums since it's up to the thread creator but maybe start to manually enforce it by mods if the idea were to pass.

Basically, pros include:
- Cleaner look to some of the thread titles
- Easier for some to identify what a thread is about

And cons:
- Everyone including new people would need to be informed of this labeling and that would be a drag
- One could consider this a mere visual effect with no actual importance

So yeah, hope the idea isn't a waste of time >_<

You see Mimi , imo the more organized this forum gets the more if its feeling it looses.

Its Chaos forums ( take notice of the name )

Imo , the best threads are the ones that contain the most.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, it'll turn more into a mechanical thing which is something we wouldn't want. But we wouldn't need to make it extreme, I mean, the thread name is still up to the person, just add a label like we do for the spamzone or the predictions and spoiler threads.

Like I said, I just put it there for thought, I'm not really bought on it myself lol :p(which is kind of bad for my part XD)

spoilers are not allowed in anime section. so it would be a bit useless don't ya think?

Well for the anime section you could have [Episode discussion] or whatnot, idk like I said, I'm just throwing it out, I actually personally think it's more or less not really useful since we're already more or less doing it and that it doesn't bring much. >_<

She means, just generally labeling things, so people KNOW for SURE what they're walking into, rather than having to actually go into each thread, find out it's something they don't want to read, when having a nice, precise label would prevent that.

I'm all for it. *thumbs up to Mimi*

I'm actually really for it. I would even waste my time to enforce it.

does that mean people will have to put [SPAM] on spam threads? cuz it might lower someone's expectations or kill the presentation (for lack of a better word)

I was referring only to spoiler part

and they are not allowed. No spoiler threads in anime sections. ever. :)

That's great, and totally not on topic. She didn't ever mention anything about having spoilers in the ANIME section.

Yes, people should label SPAM, because people like me, who go into a topic, expecting to find a real topic, don't want to instead find a bunch of meaningless spam. =/

naruto, bleach, OP whatever have their own boards, own threads and they shouldn't be discussed outside their place.

but i can see where it could be used. in spam section where people could post crap which is spoilerish. the only place. but i am worried that it would spread to other boards.
And i don't wanna that.

furthermore. spam threads belong only in spam section. general discussion shouldn't be used for them. nor any anime sections.

so marking something with [spam] is also pointless.

The new vBulletin will have features that will enable thread prefixes. When installed all this will be resolved. Right now iron out whatever labelling is needed for each forum and other nuances so that it makes it easier on me when the time comes :thumb:

Ah ok, well I guess that would simply make things easier since I guess the labeling would be done for you or you'd pick it something of the sort >.<

I don't really think putting [Spam] in front of spam would be that useful though lol. Usually the spamzone is for such things so you more or less know what you're in for unlike some threads where only the title is concerned.

Mind you, like I said, we more or less already do it. Threads usually have their content in their title. Theories usually have the word "theory" in them anyways and so forth.
