the way this episode was brought out at the very end... was so upsetting... not as in a bad episode but veryyyyyy sad... however this ending episode did satisfy me :)

I cant say i wasn't expecting this, but truthfully, deep down inside i was hoping that the DN team would surprise me. It was just heart wrenching to see Light in such a state of bewilderment and desperation, grovelling helplessly, totally defeated...

Even after all that It still didn't sink in; when i saw him reaching for his watch I really was hoping that he would pull off something masterful, but when the first bullet hit, I finally realized how lost light was. I mean c'mon the guy was so used to winning that after losing like that he couldn't help but go crazy

"Death Note" was the first anime which wouldn´t have suprised me, if the evil would have won....(damn, I am angry, I hope the tenses if´ve used are right...)

the good side wins all the time, i hate that, i´ve never seen an anime there the bad guys won! man that´s sh*t!

I am really upset with this last episode, come on, that´s not "Death Note"! Ryuuk is an ******, he had so much fun with Yagami, but afterall he wrote Yagami´s name into the Death Note, without any regret....that´s lame......

"Death Note" is still a TOP 3 anime for me, but the end is really not what I would have expected from an "Death Note" end......

Seeing Yagami going into prison, would give the chance to see a sequel, but nooo.... he´s dead.....damn....

seeing as how the sub is already out i dont think we need to psot spoiler tags... but man.. comon compared to how light tricked people in his high school days and college days.... this was completly upsetting how he let down his guard like this... shows that over confidence can always effect us... however i was glad that they noted that it took near and mello to take down light and that neither of them alone matchd up to him... it was good that they actually mentioned both of them working together, instead of making mello look useless...

Wicked ending to a wicked series.

Evil should have won? There is absolutely no way an ending could be made where Light wins. That'd just make absolutely no sense. If he had of defeated Near and killed everyone he would be in exactly the same position he was after L died. He'd have the Death Note and be killing off people, eventually he'd have to die and the Death Note would get passed on? There is no closure that way. He got the notebook, he gained the power of a god (which no human should wield) and in the end he died because of it. And the part of Ryuuk taking his life is perfect. For Ryuuk this was all just a game. Light was his little puppet to drop off the notebook to and enjoy watching the show for a while. This was all discussed at the very start of the series. Light's death was foreshadowed big time.

It's a great ending because even if you weren't rooting for Light (Like myself) you still feel bad for him when he gets in the end what's been coming to him.

And I don't see how Light was any less smart about the situation with Near than the situation with L or anyone else. Mellos kidnapping is what lead to the real notebook being found. It was totally out of Light's control. Mello put Light /New Kira into a situation where they had no communication and it ended up revealing what was really going on. Then Near was able to switch the real notebook and foil Lights plan.

i agree with misa taking her life... she would probably be confused and upset after finding out both her loves (kira and yagami) are dead...

but i enjoyed how the creator made light look innocent only when he was dead... the place he died was nicely done.. perfect setting, ryuk above him as if yagami light was lower than him... and then light dieing under a speck of light... perfect sad music everything was done well to make it look depressing...

i believe people wanted to see evil triumph in an anime at least once...

i believe the baises of the story is what would happen if a person wielded gods power... this is probably the most realistic outcome...

i also agree that yes tehre was no other ending then for yagami light to die... because what would be the point if he lived? merely there would probably be yet another genius out to get him probably and even if no one could match his genius he would eventually die and pass it onto somone probably dumber than himself which would also make no sence... him dieing in this anime was as stated before foreshadowed in the first episode when ryuk said most people having the death note often lead terrible lives or sumtin...
there are always people with potential to be a genius in this world...

the onyl thing i didnt like about this whole anime is that Ryuk never asked kira.... that in the end with no exceptions all humans will eventually die? what would yagami do then...

Very nice effort in making it 50/50 shot for the winner. But the ending I saw coming for good allways wins in the end. For the few animes that evil wins, they are pretty good. But overall it was a great ending for me. Now i haveto find a new anime to replace it.

Light was banking on a complete win though.... He thought his plan was flawless.

Really in the end, Near even admits it, Light was better then everyone else. Unfortunately, the combined efforts of Near and Mello were more then Light was able to handle.

Death Note was a very good anime. I already knew the end from the manga so i couldn't really watch this episode... They should make a new generation Death Note, but i would still would like Misa in it. She's fantastic. She's a little stupid but it would be so much fun if she could avenge Light and eliminate Near.

Hated the ending I wanted Near to at least get his too. I knew that Light was done but they should've at least made it exciting and got the little arrogant bastard called N. If Light had the eyes though something he refused to take from the begining he would have won by the way.

Well I was pretty impress from reading the manga and then seeing the anime version of it. Light really played his role well. Anyone should feel a sense of tension after watching that scene (especially after Matsuda shoots Light and he starts to go berserk.)

The thing I notice the most is how they ended the anime version. Towards the end, the scene where Light is running down the side walk and reminiscing his life before he picked up the death note. Light's face returns to the innocence/bored student he was before he picked up the note. It appeared like Light had remorse for what he did. Whether what Light did was right or wrong, this ending differently creates feelings of pity toward him.

The ending was great and i'm glad they show how coward and worthless Light is. he is the kind that act tough but when the real thing come he show his true face. in the end he cried for Misa and the other girl he killed while he see them as inferior being to him. he even clame that he is doing this for the good of humanity while he is doing it for his own good, just like L said in the begining he is just a kid.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Just as the original L said, Kira was nothing more than a childish serial killer and the final episode shows it perfectly. Yagami Light thought he was smarter than everyone else and "worthy" of being God of the new world, but he was mearly a pathetic human who happen to be at the right place and the right time to obtain a power no man should have ever had. While it's true he was quite smart, he let his own arrogance go to his head and it ended with in his demise.

Personally, I was quite satisfied with the ending and loved the anime overall. For Kira to have won would have made the second half of the anime almost pointless as it could have ended with L's death and been more effective. In all honesty, it was pretty clear this series was building to Light's demise with each evil act he commited, almost to make you hate him even more (Which worked extremely well for me). To see him cower in the face of true justice (not the bull he preached on about) like the pathetic piece of trash he truly was gave me a sense of a satisfaction I've almost never gotten out of watching an anime. A fantastic ending to a fantastic anime.

And by the way if it's not obvious, I HATE that bastard Yagami Light. Good riddance :D

That is actually all opinion,some people consider it pathetic,some people don't. He had no choice,if the killings all of a suddenly stopped because he was being watched,the conclusion would be obvious.Light,would finally have been known as the real kira,if the killings have stopped.It was impossible for him too perform any of the killings under the situation he was in.Luckily for him,Mikami was the best choice for being a 4th kira.Tell me,how exactly would you have used used the Death Note under those circumstances?

yea i kno.. i probably woulda just thrown out the death note anyways :P... but perhaps he could have planned eveerythign with mikami, and made sure to told him to never break the "correct pattern" no matter what... in the end it uspet me that light died due to somone elses stupidity... but i have to admit giovanni was damn good... he did some crazy tricks...


also sucked that mello helped near eh... but eitehr way i have to admit with everyone even if near had died, there are always gunna be other intelligent people taht will rise, and eventually kira wud die... so it made sence the ending... near and mello did outtrick kira, and it was clsoed gates after tat..

Just watched the ending a few hours ago. MAN that was good. THE best ending I have ever seen in an anime. (Though I only watched like 8 animes and they were all the top animes in U.S., half of them are not even done releasing yet)

I started disliking the series after my favorite character L died. I hate near he is too much of a showoff and I think they made him a little too smart but whatever, his smartness and psychicness is what made the ending a great ending. It was pretty sad too, and I was surprised Hiyo got to say it first that misa is going to commit suicide by the ending (Very good prediction and it makes it even more sad IMO)
Ahh, I love the year 2007.
2006 was hella boring, animes that year were kind of boring.

Now devil may cry (made by death note creators I heard) is on the move and is on episode 3, I hope it is good as well! Cause imma watch it.


edit: and I like how nearly in the end Near was saying "Neither I or Mello is the successor of L, but together we are the successor of L" or something like that and then Light was found guilty. I guess that was like the theme or message of this anime.

No. The rules of the DN state clearly, "A human's name written...". I do not remember if the anime shows tibits from the DN when they go to commercial break, but the manga did inbetween chapters.

Therefore, if Raito hadda fight Goku, he would loose.

It bothers me that Light lost though.. I so wanted him to win and see his perfect world. He could have won, had it not been for Mikami being a complete idiot.

Death Note was a very good anime. I already knew the end from the manga so i couldn't really watch this episode... They should make a new generation Death Note, but i would still would like Misa in it. She's fantastic. She's a little stupid but it would be so much fun if she could avenge Light and eliminate Near.

i dont think she would be able to live that long since she trade eyes with the shinigami twice. she be dead in like what, 6 more years? asumming she lives to be 70/2 equal 35/2 equal 6.2 years

There are actually lots of (LOTS) of animes with no "pointless" fighting, powerups and stuff, its just that they were never popular around the U.S. cause they are just regular stories that people already seen in movies/tvshows/etc instead ;)

In anime anything can happen so they take advantage of that and actually use that, and in movies it is really difficult to make really good realistic powerups and stuff and it'll just seem pretty lame in real graphics anyway.
