I think that it should be conditional, like if you do a bunch of posts that are obviously spoilers (and it couldnt have been an accident) then you could get banned for a few days or something (and no... i didnt make this one specifically for (edit:*cough*) to post on...)

What about banning them from Anime Discussion? Obviously only if it got extreme.. I only care if it's done many times on purpose, the first is just a pm..
Yes but only for bigger spoilers (like "Naruto is Itachi's father, that's why Itachi wants him so badly, so he can re-unite his real spiritual family" or something like that xD) and also if it wasn't purely by accident.
And the ban should only be from the naruto anime section, really, if such a thing is possible to control on this board.

all of my posts i'm thinking that EVERYONE is as up to date in the series as i am.(mangawise i post in the manga board, anime/animeboard)...i'm up to date in both...so is it still spoiling when all the episodes/chapters are AVAILABLE? also since i also post in the anime board i make EDUCATED guesses based on the story line for whatever question is posted, if they turn out like that...is it spoiling? i wont vote until i get an answer.

Isn't there already a thread of this nature? You could have just suggested this in the other spoiler thread..
That's a good question D.
Isn't making an educated guess from the direction of the story essentially the same as a 'spoiler'.
No one really complains about that. Most of the time spoilers are pretty damn obvious anyway, but people still cry...

I think your idea is good.. but a lot of people do spoil unintentionally. So I think that banning for spoilers alone is a tad harsh.
However, I agree with Kidd... if it's something extreme, like "Luke, I am your father" (sorry, couldn't resist this one  ), then of course that's highly offensive. And it's hard to let that major of a spoiler just slip out freely.
so.. yeah. I hope that makes sense XD

The point is that knowing it beforehand by someone else ruins the experience of the anime only watchers. It might be obvioius in hindsight but that might not be the case for people who don't know the outcome. The fact is no matter how obvious things can be in hindsight, one can't be 100% sure something would happen until one sees it in the anime or is spoiled by others.
There is a separate manga section for those that want to paricipate in up to date manga topics.
Also, there are quite a big difference between speculation and spoiling. When one speculates by using "I believe/think" in a sentence, it is an opinion...and the reader of that post will not know for sure if that will occur or not. The reader can take in what was said and say, "yeah...that could happen that way" but still not know for sure if that will be the case or not. Spoiling is telling the outcome and it ruins the full experience that everyone deserves. As long as one speculates without using the infomation gained from maga chapters ahead of the anime and includes the words "I think/believe", then there is no problem.
It is simple courtesy. Just because you could not wait to know what happened next, it doesn't give you the right to spoil those that prefer watching anime over reading the manga. I personally think the anime draws you in so much better than the manga and thus purposely stay away from the manga so I can enjoy Naruto to the fullest. I hate it when someone takes that away blatantly.
If you have to spoil it isn't hard to at least warn readers that you are about to spoil. I can elect to skip the spoilers then.

YAY! this is exactly the response i was hoping for. I really think that there should only be punishments for spoiling on purpose, not for speculation or accidents.

I've been saying this from day one in this forum...I hate to repeat this over and over to newbies in this forum that are up to date in the manga.

What you're saying makes sense...
But often times, speculation topics are near impossible to keep spoilers out of. It's not a matter of obvious spoilers here, it's a case of small details that slip out. Like.. to reference an example from say, the first episode:
anime watcher: "I wonder if Iruka will punish Naruto for his mural painting?"
manga reader: "Probably not, considering that Iruka always buys ramen for his students, even those that misbehave."
See how easy that was to spoil? But what you're saying is.. If I said,
"I think Iruka always buys ramen for his students, even those that misbehave", it's perfectly legit to say that?
It's a very fine line...
I know that people should avoid spoilers. But let's face it, when you surf the entire forum, it's hard not to let small spoilers slip out. It's right of you to be annoyed, but I think people overreact to simple mistakes. People need to relax a little. people make mistakes. You act as if you never would have done anything like that... and i'm sure with some series sometime in your life, chances are you have. What about to any friend that hasn't seen as much of Naruto as you have? Most of the people complaining about "spoilers" around here have probably spoiled anime-related things to their friends as well. it's incredibly rare to have never done it, at least once.
Again I say...
If it's not a major major spoiler like "Luke, I am your father", people need to relax a little. But if it's something along the lines of:
manga: "Yes, because Sakura uses this shampoo in the battle, ___"
anime: "OMG why did you spoil that for me?!!"
(and yes some people complain about tiny spoilers like that as well)
..Forgive and move on. Why continually complain about small mistakes, over and over? They're not going to stop happening. people get confused, people speak before they think things through completely, stuff happens. I wouldn't forgive a really bad spoiler (of course), but someone with a one-time offense? Some of you people here want to ban people for making one mistake? That's pretty intense, and foolish.
..We'd lose almost all of our members.
PS: of course.. as you can probably tell, I still agree with the original idea: "after several offenses, ban" ^^;

I don't mind too much the small spoilers but more the attitude when I warn people about not spoiling. Some think it is ok to spoil as long as it isn't a big spoiler. I don't agree w/ this at all. If it was a accident and they did it unintentially and they apologize...I get over it. Those that try to defend that small spoilers are ok, I get on their case pretty hard. I even said that I don't mind spoilers as long as they give me a warning. Those that spoil repeatedly or purposely should be banned.

Yeah, also, could.. zafar, or one of the mods with HTML admin (Is there any?) add a spoiler tag.. It's just a little javascript, I'll try and find some example code..

its very simple....spoil anythin and u should be banned....there are many manga readers including myself that post in the anime section and havent spoiled anythin yet...it aint that hard to keep ur mouth shut
try having a group of friends that love naruto and refuse to read the manga....thats torture cos only u know what happens

i agree that if you spoil you should be banned.
if you want spoilers go to manga section
but mods should talk with person who made a spoiler.
i dont read manga but if i talk in "what will happen with...." i can say my idea which was in manga. i didnt spoil but i was right. :)
so mods should be carefull with banning.

I'm quoting him because he has a point. The episodes are out... but sometimes I find people whining about spoilers on here because they haven't gotten as far as everyone else.
Also... I think it's silly that people will start topics such as, "What happened to Gaara?" or "What happened to Lee?" in the Anime Zone. If you KNOW there is a manga that is ahead, you must know that there are manga readers who frequent the Anime section who are bound to spoil. It's like leaving your front door unlocked... and then complaining about being robbed.
Of course, I'm not saying that it makes it RIGHT for the manga readers to spoil just because you guys asked for it. I'm just saying if you REALLY hate spoilers... then don't make such spoil-inviting topics.
You may not be able to control the actions of others... but you can control your own. So the best beginning to a solution is always looking at what YOU can do first before looking to others.
And yes, obvious and vindictive spoilers will be dealt with. However, accidental and innocent ones will be able to slip under the radar until they show themselves to be a nuisance.

Well said Lixie. I say those stupid topics that invite spoilers should be locked.

I also beleive that a person speculating is not the same as a person spoiling. The difference being that the person who is speculating is making an inference based on clues that are in the story, and thus any spoiling that results is unintentional. However people that know what is going to happen because they are manga reader: Good for you for reading, but don't ruin it for the rest of us (meaning all the anime only people). There is a sepparate forum for you, go there, now. I read the manga and you don't see me posting a fucking story board or something. Geeze.
As an afterthought, I hope all you spoilers out there get it from that **points up** guy. I think you know who I mean.

I don't know. . .Spoiling can be done by acident and that would REALLY suck for the person who did it without even knowing to get BANNED right after they have no clue what happened! So. . .No opinion!
