Yup!!! But for those who cant wait-- this is as good a chance as any.
Ahh-- i cant watch this one today. meh!!! Meaning i will be ready when the sub will available.
I just want to see Gai give it to Kisame in 30% mode.
Because if they cant defeat a 30% kisame even without the gates then This mission to save Gaara is screwed?

great episode, probably the best shippuuden yet!
watched the raw - its really not hard to understand whats being said... Does that mean I understand japanese? :O
Anyways... onto some info!
Naruto's OWN rasengan tech was shown! *Jiraiya was talking to him about how the fourth created Rasengan, and that Naruto should work to make it his own technique, to improve it. AND - It was HUGE - so much chakra being controlled in such a huge space...
And Gai's 6th gate seemed to make the very air surrounding him burst into flames! XD

This was a good episode. That crazy genjutsu Itachi used on Naruto was awesome. I also liked the Oodama Rasengan and Morning Peacock. Now we know how Itachi and Kisame were in two places at once. The Itachi and Kisame that got killed were fakes. I guess this also explains why Itachi couldn't use the MS.

I wish they made Gai's victory a little more amazing. I mean it was really cool and all. But I looked away for about three seconds as the scene transitioned towards it and Lee had already decided the match was over. o_0
Anyway all in all great episode. I liked Naruto's facial expression when Sakura touched his face. It's like his mind was connected the Sakura he let down in the past with the one comforting him. In fact Sakura's angry voice set a darker mood in the genjutsu then either Sasuke or Gaara. lol
Chiyo as always is sneaking up and appearing on screen as if she'd been sitting in the spot for awhile. Poor Sakura probably wet herself.
And now we know why Gai didn't recognize the man. Gai has some sort of amazing extra sense. Maybe it's the idea that all great fightings can talk with their movements, and this guy wasn't up to Kisame's standards? Either way all of Team Seven + Chiyo, whether they actually did anything or not, looked very awesome in this episode.

ok this episode was light years better than what was shown last week. the animation was practically flawless.
quick synopsis:
good:
- storyline flows perfectly
- shows what naruto really learned
- correctly represents gai in the 6th gate...his face was red
- shows that itachi's genjutsu is so strong that it needed both chiyo and sakura to dispel it
- sick animation when everyone is putting naruto through the guilt trip
- oodama rasengan and morning peacock....sweeeeeetness
bad
- only one complaint, itachi did not have a nose right before he performed the first fire technique
the only part that had me confused and i was confused in the manga as well was how did itachi know what sasuke cs2 looked like, unless that comes from the depths of naruto's mind.

it did come from the depths of naruto's mind, itachi had no part creating that image(from what i think)
great episode...
confusing part was naruto using a cloneless rasengan last episode, but when he used the one from above, it was a clone that poofed really fast. i think i have to assume that's what happened the last episode, but it wasnt shown.
ive noticed the shippuden animators are starting to include "additions" that i said i would actually like to see...and thats flashbacks of training during the timeskip.

great episode, good flow through the two fights, instead of popping in and out. Odama Rasengan looks sick, much crazier then it looked in the manga. It looks like the anime is finally starting to pick up steam. Didn't like itachi's katon jutsu's. It looked a lot cooler in the manga, showed the whole scene from itachi's perspective, instead of looking at his face, other than that, excellence...
Yeah, this episode stepped it up a notch! I espacially liked the effects added when Gui kicked Kisame :D That was nice! Im hoping they get even better next week! :)

I thought this episode was great. Nice animation, cool additions, good pacing. This is what I hope all shippuden episodes will be like. It was nice to see Gai just wipe out kisame like that. Plus it looked really sweet when Itachi dodged the kunai and started the seals for his fire jutsu.

Ill eat my earlier complaints and say that this episode was pretty damn good. Great animation. Also even tho the fights werent like really intense, they were awesome and well worth watching. Definitely revived my interest in the series. I know that more sick fights are coming up too and i hope that the animators use this as a standard when those future fights are animated.
ps, if i was a ninja i would rather fight Kisame than Itachi. His genjutsus are way too freaky and probably impossible to break by yourself. i prefer a quick death lol

Gai's kick, Asa kujaku and on top of that Oodama Rasengan ... *cries http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a311/SanativeStigma/cryinganime.gif*
Its good to see that till now there is not even a single complain ...
Ok, one question i noticed from this episode which i hope everyone also noticed ... Why was itachi smiling when he got hit by Oodama Rasengan ?
Is it because he was happy to see naruto's growth or because he thought that naruto is so stupid that he is actually fighting a puppet (30% of itachi) not a real itachi ...

I do have a question though... What's the difference between the Oodama Rasengan sneak attack on Itachi and Sakura decapitating him with one punch? lol Seriously I bet she could rip his head clean off his shoulders with but one strike. I know Naruto needs to be able to fight too, but why not incorporate Sakura in the "finishing blow"? In all honesty she's built for it and I doubt any sort of chakra can prevent an attack like that from dislodging the brain from it's stem.
Just a thought.

Ok first of all, naruto understood what kakashi had in mind and prepared accordingly while sakura was hidding behind the trees and didnt knew what kakashi was up to ...
And second thing, no way, i admit that sakura's punch is equal to a normal Rasengan but its completely not equal to Oodama Rasengan ... just look at what happened when naruto used Oodama Rasengan, the whole place blew up, the destructive power of Oodama Rasenga is >>>>> Sakuras punch ...

in episode 13 when kakashi asked itachi "How far has your eyesight deteriorated" and itachi was amazed and asked "kakashi-san you couldnt have" ... it could mean the danger of using the sharingan having it always turned on (which has already being explored before ep 100)

If they did that I would have to kill the animators for going so off track. Also it would probably be shit seeing as they didn't even do Oodama Rasengan right.

Because Sakura is useless, didn't you hear? Haha where were you for Sakura vs Ino? Although it does seem like she's grown... maybe kishimoto was saving her good stuff. Or maybe he really has a grudge against her and she will never really do anything good except heal the cool characters when they get hurt

There is a difrenece between a punch and rasengan since a punch dosent make that much damage as raseengan really do rasengan digs itself into the target so it makes alot more damage than sakuras punch. Even kabuto with his regenerating skill couldnt heal completely after rasengan.
And oodama rasenganis is just so Naruto type jutsu, raw power.

Ok, downloaded again, Ill post a pros and cons later today or tomorrow
EDIT
PROS:
- Animation quality was greatly improved. There were parts that looked really good.
- Sound quality good, the soundtracks that they were using were fitting, unlike the previous episodes.
- Two flashbacks, both were cool though. The first one gave us good insight into genjutsu and the second, obviously got us pumped up for Naruto's new technique.
- Kakashi+Naruto vs. Itachi. Really really well done. Very fluid. There was alot of "filler" in the fight but it was well placed and didn't make the fight awkward. We got to see some good old fashioned Kakashi styles.
- Speaking of kakashi, hiding in the hole and sending his clone first. Genius. That was an awesome battle plan. Also, felt alot like Zabuza again, punch, dodge, grab, trick. It was awesome. Oh and the mist, the mist was a nice touch.
- Gai, holy. The way his first kick looked there was amazing, I almost had a fit. Pretty sure I rewatched that part about 5 times. Although his technique is more powerful(as far as we know) then lee's techniques, it looks like there is less of a kickback on the user, although he defiantly did look tired.
- Of course... Oodama Rasengan. Watching that animated was amazing, the way it exploded on contact was killer. Really enjoyed that, (rewatched a few times too).
- Naruto while in the Genjutsu was really cool... Itachi understands how to truly attack someones conscious. Sakura coming outof the shirt, Kakashi, Sasuke, Gaara-eye. Really cool, I liked how much it totally destroyed Naruto's focus. My question is, what happens if Naruto just remained in the jutsu? Would he have just choked himself to death? Genjutsu Naruto was bleeding from being choked, while once he got outof the jutsu he was not bleeding... does this mean that he wasn't physically choking himself while in the jutsu, just thinking he was? Wierd... anyhow, Chiyo and Sakura to the rescue I suppose.
Cons
- Just a touch of rasengan whoring out... I mean, he used normal rasengan twice in the fight and then dropped oodama to finish it off. The second rasengan wasn't necessary, I think he could've just been coming down with a kick or something.
- Wish they could've extended Gai's fight while using the gates a little. Wouldve been nice to see a little hyper speed for a bit rather then a two move combo. Not really a huge complaint though.
- last episode was called "Naruto's Growth" and was about how he learned to dispel genjutsu... then this episode starts out with him getting more pounded on by the genjutsu... just sortof a funny thing to do with episode names.
General Thoughts:
- Naruto is BACK. We've been waiting for this for 14 episodes now. Hopefully this symbolizes the beginning of good naruto and when all the filler animators and writers were fired and the good crew was rehired, or hired or whatever happened.
- What about the two sand jounin? What was that technique all about? Who's tech was that and what does it mean about the battles that just went down. I think it's safe to say that Itachi and Kisame are still alive(preview)... what is next for the teams?

Finally, finally, finally!
they are capable of producing quality episodes....we saw glimpse of that ability in couple of the episodes of shippuuden and they showed the best one thus far this week. But it seems like this type of quality doesn't last much anymore. I only remember one time when episodes were good 2 weeks in a row. Hope they can extend it further than that.

I'd say I am about 90% satisfied by this episode.
That is damn good for recent Naruto.
-The black and white, fast moving scenes of Naruto's face, Fantastic! Reminded me of the best draw episode(imo) of where Sasuke and Sakura first fight Oro in the forrest and see themselves die. Very graphic and well shadowed art.
-Very well drawn through most of the episode. Especially Naruto's genj scene.
-Quick flashbacks. Made me happy that they didn't spend half the episode showing the viewer stuff they should already know.
-I don't read the manga, but I can assume that this episode covered a great amount of stuff. Maybe 2 or 3 chapters?
All around a decent episode,.. and I rarely say that.

Not really...
Good episode, i liked the genjutsu scene. It was riveting, the art was good enough. Didnt look different or out of place but was dark enough to portray the scene in the right light.
This is most well made episode that i have seen so far from shippuuden, or close enough in my opinion. Made me enjoy watching, and i didnt fall asleep either.

The old, almost-forgotten feeling of not being able to wait another minute for the next week's episode is back!
I have to say that I am extremely hyped up about this series again.
About the episode: When Naruto hit Itachi with that Oodama Rasengan, I was actually kind of disappointed in Itachi. I was thinking how the heck does a guy who's more skilled than Oro (Oro's words) get defeated that easily, and by such an obvious (and powerful) technique? My faith in Itachi's prowess remains unfaltered now that I know it wasn't really him. I can only imagine it was some kind of puppet, hypnotic technique - maybe not genjutsu strictly, since Kisame was able to do it too. I guess, well just have to wait to find out...
Overall: GREAT episode!

Couple things I noticed this episode that I thought was interesting:
This episode showed again how sharingan failed to detect a kage bunshin from its caster right away.
Itachi saying how the mist jutsu is not a factor for his sharingan versus Kakashi's reaction against Zabuza. Then he gets caught by Kage bunshin strategy and just does nothing when Naruto runs from about a "mile" away w/ rasengan. I'm nit picking here but I thought it was a bit contradictory.
Another minor complaint:
I was hoping Itachi would do more different type of jutsus. The animators stuck to Uchiha techniques mostly. Maybe if they went off-track maybe I would have been more pissed off...who knows...haha. Itachi's genjutsu is quite scary though...not just tsukuyomi. I wonder without the sharigan how powerful his genjutsu ability would be, just to get a fair sense of his genjutsu talents.

Filler fighting of this episode, IMO, best so far out of all of Shippuuden. Wish their budget didn't run out so they could animate Oodama Rasengan and all it's glory more (lol). Actually because of the unnecesary flashbacks they showed its easily possible they did run out of money...
Meh, overall rather good episode. Not a fan of the flashbacks to Naruto's training and the way it's being done.
Biggest complaint, I want to see more Oodama Rasengan time, that was like 5 seconds only of non-tree-dust-in-the-air-view. The moment where the anime gets to shine and show the awsomeness lasted barely anything. Makes me sad :(

Your complaints might be valid, and I shared your opinion...until the ending when they showed that it wasn't Itachi at all. Therefore, I can see how the doppleganger would have a smaller arsenal of techniques and a lower ability than the real Itachi.

Great Episode. Got to see Naruto's own version of rasengan. Wahooo. The real question isif it was itachi and kisame fighting or just those guys fighting using itachi and kisame's techniques and looks. I am counting on that kisame and itachi were fighting. Good information gathering technique. He was smiling because naruto showed his new power.

They are making Naruto uso the Rasengan too much. That's supposed to be a very special Jutsu made by the Fourth and he's just using it for everything. Next episode he'll open a soda with a Rasengan or perhaps an Oodama Rasengan.
And Raikiri shouldn't miss AT ALL. Ok Itachi can deflect it, but not dodge. They're supposed to run at blinding speed when using it.

actually if you look at it, he needs the clone to create the rasengan. when he was in kyuubi form he able to form it by himself, but it had a black color to it as well. so it wasn't completely the normal rasengan.
that to me was a different rasengan in comparison to the one he normally makes.

Open a soda... hahaha i loved it.
Ya, about the chidori and the rasengan, only real downsides of this ep...
The rasengan couldve been easily replaced with a solid kick or punch, and the chidori easily couldve been kakashi rushing at itachi with a kunai or something. It just sortof cheapens two really good techniques... and takes away from Naruto and Kakashi's true genius. Remember when we were waiting to see the next time naruto would drop a rasengan? Oh well...
All and all, this episode was really really well done. Now if only they can keep this pace and kick ass for the rest of this arc... I hope that wasnt a "one episode" sortof thing....

great episode. I'm glad they finished up the fights quickly. but at the same time it flashed back to his faults, which i think shows that he knows how to use it well but in his own way. its still a rasengan with 2 hands or not. but mastering it doesnt mean he can do it with one hand.
anyways u are forgetting itachi is smart and can see kakashis moves with his sharingan and he is better at sharingan then kakashi is. im thinking if that was not his full power only 30% or wat not then imagine him at full power he would be killer fast and kakashi wouldn be able to get him.

why does everyone saying that gai is fighting the 30% kisame? in episode 12 the leader clearly say that he needs about 30% of kisame chakra so when the clone that fights gai, he is at 70% correct? watch it again it episode 12 at 14 mins and 34 seconds. so that mean kisame was clearly fighting gai at 70% of his chakra. i dont know how u guys get 30% fighting gai. if the leader wants kisame to fight at 30% then he would have said i be needing about 70% of ur chakra.

u are mixing it up, gai is fighting the clone. the clone is made of 30% of kisame's chakra. gai is fighting a 30% clone of kisame.

alright, normal kisame has 100% chakra.
the extracting jutsus takes 30% of that OVERALL chakra
the bunshin/henge whatever jutsu takes 30% of his OVERALL chakra, not his remaining chakra.
if kisame had 100 chakra points, each jutsu would take 30 chakra points, leaving the original kisame left with 40 chakra points for whatever the hell he wants to do.
30% and 30%? That's not what was said.
He said Kisame was suited for the technique because of his huge amount of chakra. Then he said he'd need 30% of his chakra.
So either:
1. The clone had 30% Kisames chakra.
2. The extraction was using 30%, the clone had 0-70% of Kisames chakra.
After rewatching it sounds more like #2. Since he's saying Kisame can go but he still needs around 30% of his chakra.
Kisame at 70% being that tough would be a lot better than 30%. They'd have a terrible time fighting him at full strength then.

From my understanding, the clones were equivelant to Itachi and Kisame, just with 30% of their max (or current) chakra. Which would either suggest that MS sharingan takes more than 30% of Itachi's chakra OR he just couldn't use it because he technically wasn't in his Uchiha body. However, he was able to use his regular sharingan, which seems to imply that he couldn't use MS simply because it used too much chakra.

but how do u know it only 30% of their max, i have watched that one part of ep. 12 four times, and the wording directly implied that kisame can go but he have to leave behide 30% of his chakra for the extraction jutsu. and there is no way that 30% of kisame can bring that much water in the middle of a desert. it was enough water to considered it a lake. and from my understanding of sharingan, the reason that itachi's clone cant use MS is because it doesn't have the ability to do it since it not of an uchiha blood. kakashi himself couldnt see, as zabuza couldnt when he cast the damn mist jutsu, yet itachi was uneffected...i think the animators just shitted on NNT's arguments in the good ole "byakugan vs sharingan threads" lol.
As you can see from the anime, people inside the mist can see several yards around them and w/ Itachi's mastery of sharingan he can probably react to that visibility. Thus what he said is most likely reflecting his cockiness/confidence at his own skills not that the mist is non-factor for the sharingan. And my argument was w/ smoke bombs anyways which allows for much less visibility than a mist does. If you want to bring this evidence and start up the conversation again in that versus thread...go right ahead. I can't wait for the contradictions and the laughs you'll provide for me once more. ;)
Like I mentioned couple page ago...what's really funny is that after saying this, Itachi gets beaten by something even easier without even really resisting at all. If Itachi actually fared better then what he said might be more convincing.

i'm thinking it was strictly an observation/stalling mission for itachi. he saw how naruto and kakashi grew during the past 2.5 years, and he held them from getting the akatsuki hideout for some time. by the time oodama rasengan happened, he did all he needed to do with that random dude's body.

And if Itachi could have destroyed Team Kakashi's mission completely than even better for him and Akatsuki. And I'm sure that was what he actually wanted to achieve but failed...so yeah he did stall them but failed the real intent of what Itachi wanted to achieve. The fact still remains he didn't even attempt to do any type of evasive maneuver to get out of that situation when there was a lot of time to react.
And I edited my last post in response to you from earlier.

I actually had a similar sentiment after the episode. How does having a extra clone holding the rasengan together help his chances of landing rasengan? Only explanation I could come up w/ is that the rasengan is bigger and more powerful thus easier to hit w/ (more surface area) and even if it misses the explosion itself would deliver some damage?

Actually maybe the clone and Naruto can "pass" the rasengan to each other when their initial attack misses so one of them can immediately attack again right after a miss. Hmm...that would fit nicely w/ what we have seen from Naruto already imo. That would be pretty cool.

i doubt that it can be "pass" because if one were to lose control of it then it would jsut exploed. isnt that the whole point of the clone being there to help naruto hold it in the first place?

Let me try to describe what I meant better:
Both had contact with it so one could let go and the other would still keep rasengan in its form...and the one that let go of Rasengan can guide, pull, push, thrown, etc the other Naruto in the direction where his enemy evaded the initial attack. Most enemies would not be expecting this kind of attack sequence. There is a high chance that the enemy would be surprised by this. And by the time they realized what just happened it would most likely be too late to react. It fits nicely w/ how Naruto has beaten his past opponents that are stronger than him.
Hope this provides a better image of what I tried to say earlier.

Its kinda cool to think, its a bigger version of rasengan - but look - they are each using 1 hand on it - so it theoretically can be held by one person *with two hands*
So I think he is able to pass it back and forth, but it will lose some of its "umpf" in the process...
Maybe. I think the point of using a clone is to help keep the rasengan under control while moving. The major flaw of Narutos rasengan is that he has to push it towards his enemy. It's not like he's palming the rasengan like a basketball. It's spinning chakra. It's going to be hard to keep it under control if he starts redirection his arm. Having two hands on the rasengan means he can put in a lot more power and have a lot better control over aiming.
ALthough if he missed he could use both hands to control the new rasengan and have his clone toss him back at his opponent. Should make for some interesting Naruto combos in the future.

Both had contact with it so one could let go and the other would still keep rasengan in its form...and the one that let go can guide, pull, push, thrown, etc the other Naruto in the direction where his enemy evaded the initial attack.
ur missing what am trying to say. what i ment is that the moment one let go it would immediately making the one holing it lose control of it due to it immense power. in the last ep. naruto require the clone to hold it through the whole dustructive contact. if there were 3 naruto then ur plan would have work.
if there is then you are going to have to wait until its revealed to find out about it :p
i was jsut stating that i might miss something in that ep. that tell more about the oodama.

Yeah I would agree that it would lose that combined power of "2 handed" rasengan but it is still rasengan. Smaller rasengan is still more than powerful enough to beat an opponent. Oodama is overkill really. ;)

And i think others already answered this for me. One that doesn't let go could hold Rasengan w/ both hands then. And 3 clones would work too. Or if one lets go, rasengan might return to its normal more manageable size too. Either way using this type of strategy would greatly enhance Naruto's chance of landing rasengan which was your initial question.

Its kinda cool to think, its a bigger version of rasengan - but look - they are each using 1 hand on it - so it theoretically can be held by one person *with two hands*
i dont think naruto be able to run if he holding it with both hand (if he can that it). well...he can run but it be really slow. and speed is everything if u want oodama to hit it target.

well by the clips that they showed in th episode, the reason for the oodama is for people who have an outstanding defense like kabuto.

The clone or Naruto that lets goes of rasengan can compensate for this by helping the one holding ransengan now. Like I mentioned before by guiding, throwing, pushing, etc.
Edit:
This also reminds me of arms in the initial 'kamehameha' pose. It would slow u down but you can run with your arm in that pose.
Kabutos defenses were outstanding? I think the point was that Naruto doesn't have any flexability when he used rasengan. If he isn't able to hit a target that moves infront of him it's pretty much useless against strong opponents.

i agree ur plan is good, but it would just make oodama rasengan becomes a regular rasengan, because u said so urself it would compensated back to it manageable size rasengan if one let go. either way it was just not the way i imagine oodama would be when i watched that flash back. *sign*

yeah kabuto's defenses are outstanding. he got wailed with a rasengan and regenrated his cells almost as if nothing had happen.
and the reason why i used that as the point of the flashback, is because when we just saw naruto use the oodama rasengan it was still a straight on attack.

Where is it stated that the clone has anything to do with the size and power of the rasengan? It's Narutos chakra, why would get pump a ton of chakra into a clone so it could just give back the chakra into the technique? It's obviously his chakra in the ball, the clone is there to help control it. Which was the point of the flashback. Naruto has no control for aiming at a moving target. Using two hands would be stupid since he'd become absolutely unable to defend himself. So using a clone to help control and aim it, as well as to help keep the power in the rasengan stabilized makes sense.

The flashback had nothing to do with Kabuto's regeneration. It had to do with Naruto needing to allow Kabuto to stab him so he could immobilize his target so the rasengan could land.

i know the flashback was directed towards naruto having to hodl the person in order to hit them, but the oodama rasengan showed no improvement of flexibility in attack. it was still a straight on attack.

i think half of you dont get it why naruto needs a clone for rasengan (i dont think that i get it myself :x ) 2 clones, one gives the chackra the other manufestst the chackra in a ball, keeps it in place...you saw naruto trying to do rasengan with 1 hand in the old episodes he couldnt do it because making rasengan with onley 1 hand without help is difficult, so he figured out tha with a clone youd be able to devide the parts so one is giving chackra and the other forming it...like a normal procesor & a dual core. Then when the rasengan is formed the clone can go away and naruto can use it but in oodama rasengans case there is just much much more chackra added so its ''heavy'' and thus naruto must use 2 clones to carry it.

ya true. we'll have to wait for the next usage to see more flexibility i guess.

wtf are you talking about? kabuto got wailed on by rasengan, regenerated, then still passed out cause rasengan did too much damage to him. not only did he not fully heal from rasengan, but he was on "E" in terms of chakra too. this post makes no sense to me.
but i still dont see oodama rasengan's advantage over rasengan in delivery either...

so you are saying kabuto doesn't have a strong defense? because being able to regenerate from an attack like that, especially one you know nothing about sounds pretty good to me.
and the point of my statement was to show that oodama was not necessarily meant for making naruto's attack flexible because he still attacked "itachi" head on. so my point was that he instead made his attack, i.e. oodama rasengan, a stronger version of the rasengan.

his defense is good, but that's healing power that you're talking about, and it has nothing to do with naruto getting stabbed in the hand to do rasengan.(what jiriaya said), so i dont get your point here.
i think the same as you though, it was meant as nothing more than to be an naruto(possibly kyuubi) chakra-ed rasengan.

I agree. The only thing that I see that makes this oodama "better", is that if he misses the target, he can still redirect his rasengan to the ground and the impact will still cause major damage, maybe even still taking out the target. Whereas normal rasengan did not exactly do immense damage to the surrounding environment (if you look at the rasengan used against kabuto).

I like it and I am looking foward for 16
i would think its cool if the two clones, each go an other direction or something and the oodama rasengan becomes a rasengan in each clone's hand : so its like two rasengans. If anyone misses then the other one could still perform the rasengan

Nope, we were discussing how the size of Oodama was largely due to that extra bunshin and Hiyo was saying that this extra bunshin didn't really play a factor in its size. He wasn't summarizing, he was providing a counter argument. You should be the one reading more carefully...lol.

Wow, worst consistency ever.
Lee was standing on water. He can't mold chakra. Maybe he made a miraculous breakthrough in his training. My guess is the writers don't do consistency checks.
Plus, as everyone else mentions, Itachi saw through a fog using sharingan, which the writers already established isn't possible.
What's the deal? Have the authors just thrown consistency out the window?
NarutoNineTails

The water standing was in the manga. So that might be oversight on Kishimoto's part but the mist wasn't in the manga so that might be oversight exclusive to the animators. Then again it is hard to tell how involved Kishimoto is in the anime at any given time in the anime series.
