Kurenai's depression has deepened as she draws closer to giving birth to Asuma's child. All around her is the laughter of others as Konoha's prosperity begings to grow once more. She feels sick that the village could be so calm while the organization known as Akatsuki that killed her lover continues their plots unchecked, the elders unwilling to make a major move for fear of drawing their ire towards Konoha and more importantly, Uzumaki Naruto. Then she hears on the wind that Jiraiya has returned from his long mission of keeping tabs on Akatsuki.
The news is not good. Akatsuki has captured all Jinchuuriki except Naruto and they are seriously considering mobilizing the current power of their collected tailed beasts against Konoha in order to claim Naruto and finish the job Orochimaru had started, to crush the Hidden Leaf Village once and for all. The elders and Tsunade meet with all jounin to discuss their situation, oddly deciding to include Kurenai even though she is well into her third trimester and in no condition to defend Konoha. Their intent is made clear when after dismissing all others, the elders ask Kurenai to stay behind for a more private discussion...
The threat of the Jinchuuriki's power is far too great for Konoha to handle without employing certain measures. Measures that had been taken once before in the young village's history. As Kurenai knew all too well, two sacrifices were needed for the method they thought to use. One would be the death of the Hokage, a fate Tsunade recognized as inevitable in the face of such a dangerous situation. She was currently studying the notes of the Fourth to better perfect the technique. The other sacrifice was the life of an infant. Kurenai spoke out. "So then, you have chosen my child to go through the same hardship as him, to be orphaned and outcast, despised by the very village he saved?"
"There is no other, Kurenai...there must be a container."
They would take everything, then, Kurenai thought. Her lover...her life...and the happiness of her child would all be swept away in the name of the Hidden Leaf Village. "For the sake of Konoha..." she muttered before leaving the room. She would go through with it. Such was her distaste for her village that she would rather die for it's protection than live on within it's walls. But she had one final task to perform before she could die. She had to expose "him" to the truth. To the name of her predecessor: Uzumaki Gisei.
I got really bored and dreamt this little scenario up. It creates a nice dose of tension in my mind, eventually causing Naruto to leave Konoha himself and flee from both Akatsuki and Konoha as they both fight over the power of the Kyuubi, desperately needing it to crush the other. Besides, it would be a nice excuse to cut away from Sasuke for a while. Post if you like it, post if you don't, or just read and enjoy.
