well we hear about how this genereation of leaf ninja is so special quite alot, yet the previous generations were much more spectacualr. i mean, kakashi adn itach for instance were anbu captains and chuninetc long before naruto sauke and even the only one to achieve chunin rank shikamaru. so why is everyone so impressed with them?

Sasuke is the last Uchiha, Naruto is the person with the nine tails demon sealed in him. Neji has far surpassed the hyuuga clan in terms of potential and skill. Lee is the most superior taijutsu artist around at this point. Shikamaru is a friggin' genius. Should I keep going?

Hell, those 5 right there are impressive for some of the techniques, strategies and things they do for A. Their age, and B. Their rank. And also note that 3 of the 5 I mentioned are Rookies...meaning that this is their first shot in the chuunin exam/first year being a genin.

Imagine all the rookies in the NFL breaking records in their first year. people would say the same thing as far as "Spectacular new generation" of football players.

I wouldn't say that the previous generation was that much better... Sure, Itachi and Kakashi were great, but not all of the current Jounin were that stellar. I think every generation has its few really talented ones... so those few don't really define the generation.

And I would even hesitate to label Itachi and kakashi as being from the same 'generation' of students. Kakashi is still older than Itachi, they were obviously not students at the same time, they only shared time being ANBU.

And if you want to look at the current students... I dunno about you, but Gaara seems to be pretty impressive to me. Neji had a lot of potential to become really great. And Rock lee is definately something new to add to the list... and someone mentioned naruto... yeah, he's the Kyuubi. I'm sure no other generation had that :P I'm joking a little, but do you see what I mean?

I see what you're saying and all, but I think your argument is unfounded.

Shino is just an all around decent ninja. I'd toss him up there with Kankuro or Temari in terms of being a very good ninja for his rank. I mean some of the things he came up with are pretty intelligent, even though they may seem basic to a bug user. Especially his tricks involving female bugs.

One thing I noticed, though, is that the new generation mostly have bloodline talents, giving them an edge over most of the older generation. The older gen, like kakashi, had to work like hell to ge to where they're at.
