GaoShin: Hero is a Jet Li film; soon to be released in the United States, I think.. I may be wrong, but that's what I heard.
Bruce Lee is ultimate; he owns everyone else.

I love Jet Li. I saw Hero in chinese... best movie ever made in my opinion.
GaoShin
07-24-2004, 04:50 PM
Oh!!!! I thought they released it already...
So it is the same one that I thought it was. Now did someone already do this thread? Dubbed or subtittled? I perfer subtittles. And I saw the chinese one too. I loved everything about it. Especailly the colors. That was pretty cool. Wait, I hate it at the end when....(Might erased for this so...)
And I pick Jet li just because he made better movies. Forgive me but Chan is only amusing. And Bruce Lee, in my opinnion, only had one great movie - Enter the Dragon.

Being a martial artist myself, I would have to say Bruce Lee. The others are jokes compared to him, and he himself is overrated. Quite sad.

Aww, but Bruce Lee told many jokes.. he had a different kind of humor, but he made me laugh all the time. Moreso than Jackie Chan would.
Lee had a nice, "I am better than you, so you look stupid" humor... and Bruce Lee is the man, so he got away with it well
just my opinion, though.. aheh

Best martial artist is Bruce Lee. I dont consider the man as was the best because as to date he still is the best i mean he created an incredible art form.
But since we are talking about Martial Arts Actor which means skill in the martial arts as well as acting i would have to say Jackie Chan just because i want to take up the Drunken Fist style.
Sara Kido
08-21-2004, 02:48 AM
Yay!!!! Drunken Fist style!!!!
Jackie Chan rocks!!
jet li is awesome but i cant say the same bout his acutal movies...
what is jackie chan thinking?! around the world in 80 days?! :D ill just settle for his animated series... one of the few american made cartoons i like...one more thing... the others are samurai jack, teen titans...one more thing...wut happened to it?
what happened to what? I think Jakie Chan Adventures comes on now...(since it's around 8 o-clock where i am).
sorry i wasnt clear... u were right though, i was talking bout jackie chan adventures and theyre all reruns now...
in fall they should have new episodes. I wonder what's next, I mean, they defeated the masks and all...
I'd say Bruce Lee is the best ever, seeing as he kinda revolutionised martial arts.
But out of the modern actors (aka, those who're alive ^.^) I'd say Mark Dacascos...although the earlier Jackie Chan movies were good too.

i love jackie chans adventures. in poland they are showing them trying to caputer all animals which posses talismans. is there another series after that? (L2Mc you are saying something about mask. what kind of mask?)
I love Karate kid and this old master. he was fun to watch and when he fought it was pretty cool :)

Bruce Lee is more of a fighter, first and foremost. If you've got some spare time, I recommend researching him.. it's interesting stuff ;) Impressive too, I'd say. Particularly with the fighting style he created... that'd be cool to learn :D
im not discrediting the bruce, but i think your disccrediting the jet li, why dont YOU read up on his background :)

to be honoust those 2 cannot be compaired.
they have different fighting styles, where bruce was realy basic. Jet Li is more technical. when compairing these and others you can end up in an endless discussion. Only way to settle such a thing cannot be held anymore. A true championship between martial artist.

sad but true, but i still say, technique = what makes the fighter.

best martial artist - Bruce Lee... no question

Bruce Lee-martial artist

lots of people mentionned him :P
Bruce taught at schools are sought to develop the martial arts... Li hasn't to my knowledge... It's pretty much as IZZA said... Li is more of an actor.... not taking anything away from him tho O.O
Personaly I'd say Steven Seagal ranks higher on my list than Li... but he's had very few good movies....

bruce was a better martial artist, chuck is a better actor.
Steven Seagal = i hate him so much..i have not seen a good or half way decent movie of his, and i've seen enough to tell he sucks
Chuck Norris = what a f---ing loser...he was taught by the same guy who taught my dad, though at different times. Chuck Norris wanted to get a new type of belt, but the sensei thought he wasn't ready, so Chuck challenged the sensei, and in short, sensei kicked Chuck through a window onto the sidewalk....i have no respect for Chuck..he sucks at fighting too...i can't remember the sensei's name, i'll have to ask my dad
.:Alias:.

haha Steven Seagal... that's funny... haha
hey how 'bout van damme...he was european kickboxing champ lots of times (of course not better the all the chinese guys mentioned yet, but if Seagal is in this list...)

bap...just because you don't like the movies doesn't negate their skill.... I said myself Seagal's movies on the whole suck.... but I've seen documentrys about him... outside the movie, his fighting style is so much better, and he's actually really fast  ... I think the problem with his movie is that he tries to inject too much philosophy into them... which doesn't sit well with the people who just want to see constant deaath and violence in action movies...
Norris may be arrogant... I dunno... but he seems alright as a martial artist....
Van Damme's movies really do suck >.> .... as a fighter he seems OK... but that's because everyone oversells the moves he does... a slight tap and the guys jump miles... he seems fast...but compared to others... he just seems outclassed....
meh, i'll stick with the Orientals...they know best
Aurora Dark
01-19-2005, 10:50 PM
I can't bring myself to compliment Seagal...
he does bad movies, and is an annoying, very arrogant man from the interviews and such I've seen of him  soo... nah :P
Van damme.. I don't actually know anything about him as a fighter, just that he's had some bad movies too >_< hmm... if anyone does know, that's be somewhat interesting to hear about >_>
I can agree with him being annoying and probably arrogant...I've never seen him take backseat to anyone in a movie... always has to be the hero >.>
But I thought this thread was about their ability as a martial artist? In that respect, he's pretty skilled...
My favourite thing about Seagal, is from Family Guy where the Wheelchair guy (forgot his name...Joe?)is watch Seagal movies in bed while his wife is asleep and randomly shouts out "LOCK AND LOAD, LOCK AND LOAD, BRING ON THE PAIN!"
Don't really know a lot about Van Damme... a quick bit of research confirms my idea that he's more of a body builder than martial artist... But I'll never forgive him for RUINING Street Fighter >.> Who's idea was it to make Guile the central character? -.-

but common van Damme is a very lousy actor.. he might be good in fighting but the rest of it sucks. Street Fighter was such a pathetic movie... legionnaire to and all the others he did.
Steven seagal.... right always the same movies always the same moves. he always plays a dude that has nothing to lose cause he already lost it, his wife and kids got murdered, he lost his memory, he lost a partner at the police force, in his search for the ones responcible he fights his way true it without asking questions.

I heard seagal had done music lately, country I think, and I heard quite good critisis, maybe is he a better singer than a fighter, or an actor.
concerning van damm is known here as a quite stupid person, he tries to make philosophical, or smart sentences, but it's always dumb and meaningless. There's even book with "jcvd's quotation"
Seagal looks like he's just smacking people in his movies...not actually fighting
Damme...blood sport was okay, thats it i think

XD wow.... by some amazing co incidence that was the exact plot to the Seagal movie tonight... 'cept he didn't have memory loss ^.~
Yea...movie sucked big time... Awful fight scenes, but mainly due to rubbish stunt guys...meh... I still think he's not that bad as a martial artist tho...
mmm....Bloodsport...I'll give him credit... that was actually a watchable movie.. Kickboxer wasn't terrible either... One thing above everything else that I'll never understand about street fighter.... who the hell casted Kylie Minogue as Cammy???? -.-" baka
Tried to come up with other martial artists...can't think of anyone other than Marc Dacascos... he's pretty good... but in the same category as Seagal... his movies pretty much suck.. although he has had a couple of good ones!
Keanu Reeves.... thinks he's a martial artist -.-
Keanu Reeves sucks in everything he does, even the "martial arts" he claims he can do...
Aurora Dark

Marc Dacascos had one great movie: Brotherhood of the Wolf :D (Le pacte des loupes)
And hey, the Crow series wasn't so bad...
People are always insulting Keanu Reeves. Seriously, he's not -that- awful. He does act strangely, and he does act a little dumb, but he suits his characters, who usually *are* those kinds of people :P (I mean, did anyone really expect Neo to be a super genius man?)

jacki chan is good he does all his own stunts and is quite good at matrual arts,
also jet Li is quite good i enjoied his movie Hero was a verry good movie
meh... I didn't like Hero very much... but that's personal preference I guess...
:o I've been wanting to see the crow series ever since I was told he was in it... but oddly enough there's very little information about it on the internet... especially seeing the "cult" status the crow has :?
Never seen Brotherhood of the Wolf... seen crying freeman.. but that was more of straight out shooting and blowing stuff up rather than martial arts... Drive was pretty funny... but only in the "this movie is so bad its funny" kinda way >.>

I'd have to say that Jet Li is probably the best martial arts actor I've ever seen. He is so dynamic and yet has a certain dignity about him. If you want to see some of his good stuff, dig around for the movies he did when he was acting in Hong Kong movies, such as the Once Upon a Time in China movies, those were very good. Most of the movies he did in Hollywood were rubbish.
Van Damme annoys me, so does Jackie Chan, I quite like Steven Seagal he has a certain lethal grace to him.
Brotherhood of the Wolf was definitely very weird, I wouldn't say I hated it but it just wasnt all that good.

Since we're discussing Martial artists, and since I still think Bruce Lee was the best (and more interesting personality, too ), I wanted to share this with you. I originally heard him say it in an old tv interview, and finally thought, "why don't I check online, maybe someone wrote it down!" Sure enough, here it is:
"Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless--like water.
Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup.
You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle.
You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot.
Now, water can *flow*... or it can *crash*!
Be water, my friend."
Granted, it's not as dynamic without hearing and seeing him explain it, but I find it to be rather good insight ;) It's one of my favourite things to remember :B

youve seen ong bak? sweet. one of the coolest movies ive ever seen. its being dubbed soon
Brucey had the essence of martial arts down to a tee....
however, there are A LOT of rising stars in asian movies who rival bruce's movies in terms of martial arts scenes... and as this topic refers to actor, Bruce, although his movies obviously have stood the test of time, lose out slightly nowadays... simply because of the different era... and as much as I love Lee's movies, there are better actors^.^
still... if bruce were alive today, I'm sure he'd still be reigning supreme

The "best" martial artist probably wouldnt want to be in a movie. Theyre probably training in some dojo nobody has heard about or off in some secluded area to train more. Although I like bruce lees movies I dont consider him or any other actors to be the "best". Anybody who was the best probably wouldnt want a life in front of the camera.
Also tournaments are overrated.
Kuchiki
03-11-2005, 11:22 AM
well thats why the question is martial artist actor. The question is asking about martial artists who choose a life in front of the camera.
