View Full Version : Are Anbu ninjas stronger than Jounins or Chuunins?

Based on what was shown in the anime and manga, Anbu's main job was to investigate nad guard something of importance. So are the Anbu's stronger than the Jounins or chuunins?

no there not! there the same level as jounins. its just a name of a branch of special police kind of! after all kakashi was in ANBU i think earlier on in life and he's a jounin so obviously not.
Anbu is just black ops, who specialize in certain areas to make a strong cohesive unit..... one might be better at tracking, interegation, assasination, another at leadership.
But no there not stronger than jounin and chuunin, thier comprised of both!

they rank from chuunin to high jounin. if u want to catagorize on them. (like look at kakashi, and ibito, itachi etc.)

I think they're supposed to be more powerful but the current anbu is horrible...

getting caught up in that "oro invades konoha"-arc tends to decimate an unprepared ninja crew. Rebuilding that is what they have been doing ever since :)

we saw.
yamato is anbu and sai is anbu and they are both really strong yamato is near kakashis level and sai was stronger than naruto in the beginning after the time skip and he looks like he is on the same age.
and when did we saw an anbu easily lost? i cant remember that happening the anbu made counter attack after konoha was invaded and they defeated them all the only lame move (but it was a really lame one) was when orochimaru left after the fight against sandaime and two anbu wehre cought and burned in the net of one of the sound 4 but i am not sure if that happened in the manga and i dont think it had

Anbu are from chuunin rank to jounin. So to say whether they are stronger than jounin or chuunin is redundant, they are chuunin and jounin. Most of their ranks are special though, people specialising at a specific field, but then there are those that seem exceptional, the captains, like Kakashi and Yamato...
Sai is also a good example of an anbu, he seems special jounin rank( no noobs should mistake this for elite jounin)...
As for Sai being stronger than naruto, i doubt, he seems relatively smarter but he never showed stronger...

Im 50/50 on Anbu, Sai and Yamato are both very strong shinobi, and yeah ANBU has never really lost.... But we havent seen them be like super awesome.
Edit:The first sentence directed towards papfles or whatever.

anbu got easily taken out by kabuto, not to mention oro said his sound 4 were better than ANBU members. (note that the sound 4 got taken out by genin from konoha and sand)
but thats beside the point, itachi was anbu when he wiped out his entire clan, not to mention kakashi, yamato, and sai is in root(a subdivision of ANBU)
but they do specialize in specific talents, not meant to be overall great ninjas.
Well, I think there are ANBU with high skill and with low skills, like the ones that died by the hands of Kabuto! But then look at Itachi, Kakashi, Yamato, Sai... They are all good Shinobi that would give any other Shinobi a good run for the money! Soo, as in everything in life, there are good and bad!

sai isnt anbu but roots which is diffrent right?
something led by danzou or whatever right?

I think "roots" is a branch of anbu black ops guys. like a mini group that follow Danzou.

yeh true anbu are purely tactical which makes them so lethal.

Wasn't she the one who caught Kakashi looking at the memorial stone at the time of the 3rd's funeral?

I think those five only showed up in the anime; I could be wrong, though. From what I heard the girl with the purple hair is Gekko Hayate's girlfriend or fiancee or something.

There like A swat team, and im not sure why there made to sound so good some are good nins but some are just so-so. The Anbu with hoods I think were the 3rds like personal guards.

if i were a naruto guy id defintly try to be anbu jus cuse they look sick and id be 1 of those ppl with lots of jutsu ;)
on topic, the anbu that u see get ownd 1 hit are prolly the high genin/chuunin ranked anbu's but meh. i still respect them cuse they are the leetz

kabuto also used tsunade's greatest weakness, the sight of blood. without that edge anymore, i doubt that he would have such n easy time.

I agree with the kabuto sunade blood thing... anyways i think that anbu are not meant to be stronger but specialized in certain aereas . ie sais abilities to turn the information he writes into living animals and send it away. another example would be back when kakashi was anbu: his tracking dogs . they are special ops and assasinations corps so stronger or weaker i think it doesnt matter, i look at it more like they have special abilities regardless of their strength

I agree with this. ANBU are ninja with "special skills." It doesn't mean they're stronger or weaker than anyone else, it just means they are good at certain things, such as assassination and interrogation. (Ibiki was an ANBU, right? I know he was black ops...)
Technically you can be an ANBU on suspended duty (i.e., kakashi and tenzou)
but as far as I've seen, these ninja are usually just "strong." not uber.
And i think those three hooded shinobi were very high ranking ones, as mentioned before.

..actually she is Ren or Rin however its spelt...from Kakashi's team when he was young with obito (or however spelt...)<----speculation

The Anbu are a force of strong ninjas. In Narutoverse there arent many ninja around who can beat Kakashi , Yamamoto , Gai and the jounins. We only see the strongest in the world so its natural to think that the Anbu are weak compaired to them.
But the Anbu is most likely one of the strongest ninja force in the Naruto verse. I dont think many ninja could win a fight with the Anbu going all out. They could easly dispatch 12 Ninjas on one target and no matter how strong he is 12 elites are gonna fuck up your hairdoo

Yeah they are probably even below zabuza level. I think they are good but the ones that are chuunin suck. Kabuto killed one so easily. I would much be an akatsuki. I would love to wear that black cape.:D

That says it all. They are made up of jounin and chuunin, so what is the argument about. Are anbu stronger than the members that make them up?
All the anbu that have featured prominently, and by prominent i mean those that we have come to actually know are all strong.
Yamato is still anbu, he is even still using his code name because he is still a member of the organisation.
Kakashi is former anbu and we know his strength.
Even Zabuza who was strong was Hidden Mist Anbu.
Itachi was also Anbu, he was even wearing the uniform when he slaughtered his clan.
I doubt their strongest ninja were used to guard Sasuke in the hospital, especially when Yamato alone may have very well been able to take on Kabuto.
