Welcome to the Shadows of Shinobi, the awesome Role Playing Game on the Chaos Forums!
This is an introduction to those who are interesting in RP'ing (role playing) here.
Here at the SOS, you will create your own shinobi, based on the naruto-verse! You will train your character, from an academy student, till a veteran jounin of the Hidden Leaf! You will do missions, do training, battles and various events!! Join ANBU, if you like! Interact with fellow shinobi and create a stroy that YOU want to be part of!
Getting Started:
There are a few things you need to do to get started in the SOS... here's a list. Do it in THIS order!
- Read the rules (http://forum.narutochaos.com/showthread.php?t=9708). This is very important!
- Create your character. Once you have created him/her, post their statistics in the Character Creation Thread (http://forum.narutochaos.com/showthread.php?t=11925&page=30). Then wait for a council member to approve your character
- Go to the Shinobi Academy (http://forum.narutochaos.com/showthread.php?t=10513). Here you will be taught to RP like a master. upon being passed at the academy, you will be promoted to a genin. Then you may start your shinobi career!
- From there on, you can do what you want! Do missions, train or whatever you like!
Thank you, and enjoy the almighty SOS!!
Regards
~Azure

EDIT by Azure: Oops, forgot to lock this, thanx reg!
EDIT by DBZWarrior6582: wouldn't have mattered if you locked it, Supermods and Admins could still post in here.
p.s. sorry for screwing your post up Reg.
Okay... after a slight request and a lot of confused newbies, I have decided to compile this list of questions. I will add more when I have time.
THE FAQ:
How Do I Join The SOS?
If you would like to join, please fill in the character sheet and post it in the Character Stats Page. After it has been approved then you will be taught by our senior members on how to RP and the rules of this RP. Azure Wrath has made a getting started guide that you can find above this FAQ.
What is the Character Sheet?
There is no actual sheet to use, most people copy other peoples but change the details. Here is one version:

Where Is The Academy And What Do I Do There When My Character Is Approved?
You can find the academy here. When you get there you must post how you walk into the room, what you do inside and write what your character thinks and says.
How Do I Make A Picture Of My Character?
This is very easy. Those little pictures are called chibis, which you can create here: www.tektek.org/dream/dream.php (http://www.tektek.org/dream/dream.php)
Who Are The Council Members?
The council members are Dream Catcher, i_feel_tiredsleepy, and Viseres.
What do they do?
The council are the people who run the SOS and make sure everyone is doing what they should. They can approve your missions, training and characters. They also judge fights and set up large events for the whole of the SOS to compete in. They also make the rules.
Where Can I Find The Rules?
The rules have a thread of their own that is situated here (http://www.forum.narutochaos.com/showthread.php?t=9708). They are nearly complete although little parts of it is missing. If you need help just ask one of the friendly members.
What Are The Different Pays For Missions?
S - $600-$1000
A - $400-$600
B - $200-$400
C - $100-$200
D - $50-$125
What Are The SOS Tags?
All of these tags were made by the almighty Azure Wrath. I have put them here because they are a bit hard to find in the forums. (4 image limit sorry)

There is also an animated version:

What Is An Event?
An event is a large group mission or a group of fights between different people. There can also be competitions too. The chuunin exams are an example.
How Do I Join An Event?
To join an event you must post in that event’s sign up thread, usually filling out a form provided in the thread’s first post. However, some events will affect everyone in the RP, making you automatically part of it. An example of this was the ‘Great War’ when Orochimaru invaded Konoha again.
When Is The Next Chuunin Exams (aka the CEs)?
Obviously, this will always change. Check to see for a thread created about it or any messages by Viseres, our jutsu master and exam leader, most likely posted in the spam zone. If you cannot find any clues then the CEs happen every six months, so check to see when the last one took place.
How Do I Become A High Genin?
To become a high genin you must have completed five C rank missions. Once you become high genin you may learn one B rank jutsu and have more chance of being accepted in a B rank mission.
Who Created The SOS?
It was the old members known only as Masah. You must worship him for the rest of your life.
If there are any more questions you can think of, please tell me and I will add them to the list.
Thank you for this KS07!

Welcome to RP 101.
You’re here because you aspire to join the prestigious ranks of Konoha’s Shinobi.
Q: What’s the most important thing when RP’ing here at SOS?
A: Word Usage – This will make or break your attack or defense.
Yes, here at SOS you will come to find that as shinobi, we may fight with a very colorful arsenal of weapons, but it means completely nothing if the words you use make no sense. You don’t have to be an expert in English by any means, but you must be able to construct sentences and descriptions that make sense to your opponent/reader.
And while we’re on the subject of descriptions, please take a moment to consider that the more description you add to your post, the better you will score when judges are looking at it.
Q: Is there a specific format to RP at SOS?
A: Great question! The answer is yes, and no...
Here is the generic RP style you will find most of the time:
*Katsu locked the door behind him as he walked out of his room and into the hallway of the Konoha inn. He whistled at he casually strolled down the hall towards the stairs. Suddenly there was complete silence. Katsu found himself frozen in his tracks with a troubled look on his face*
What you’ve just read is an ‘action’ sequence. Notice how I placed the action between two asterisks (*). There is one asterisk at the beginning and one at the end. Now lets take a look at some dialogue.
Katsu: Did I....leave the stove on?
Now, suppose I wanted to use my character’s inner monologue instead of having him say his thoughts out loud? Well to do this you could try something like:
Katsu: (Did I....leave the stove on?)
OOC: See how I just put the dialogue in parenthesis to turn them into thoughts instead?
Simple right? Please keep in mind that the examples you’ve just read are not set in stone here at SOS.
Yes, here at SOS you will find a variety of RP’ers from many different backgrounds and schools of RP’ing. What’s most important about your style is that you include the following:
- All writing involving the description of ‘actions’ must be written in the 3rd person.
- Actions must be distinctly differentiated from dialogue. Your opponent or reader should be able to easily tell them apart.
- Always use ‘OOC’ when you want to break character and communicate with your opponent/reader.
- For the sake of being organized, please skip at least one line between Actions, Dialogue, and ‘OOC’ comments.
Q: Wow, you sure used a lot of terms and phrases that I don’t understand there. Mind clarifying it for me?
A: I’d be delighted to!
*SOS – Shadows of Shinobi – That’s the name of the RP group here at Narutochaos.com.
*RP / RP’er / RP’ing – These are abbreviations for the term ‘Role Play’ / ‘Role Player’ / ‘Role Playing’.
* ‘OOC’ – Litterally means ‘Out of character’
Q: What’s 3rd person? Does that mean there’s a 2nd and 1st person also?
A: Wow, you are just choc full of excellent questions! The answer is yes!
By now you must have figured out that there are 3 main elements to every post (on average).
Now that you’ve seen all three of these used, did you know that you’ve also seen examples of 3rd person, 2nd person, and 1st person writing formats? Yes it’s true!
The 3 elements are:
- Actions (3rd person)
- ‘OOC’ comments (2nd person)
- Dialogue/ inner monologue (1st person)
Still confused? I thought so. Well, what if we looked at the same thought or idea written in all 3 forms?
3rd person
Nick wrote this lesson in the hopes that it would give new academy students a deeper foundation of how to RP.
2nd person
By reading this lesson you will hopefully have a deeper foundation of how to RP.
1st person
I wrote this lesson. I really hope it gives academy students a deeper foundation of how to RP.
This concludes RP 101. Now for your final exam you must write a post that includes Action, Dialogue, and an ‘OOC’ comment.
Huge kudo's to Nick for this!
